Lumber Co. 5th in Joliet USSSA "D" NIT

Lumber Company went 3-2 this weekend to finish 5th out of 29 teams in the Joliet USSSA "D" NIT. The 5th place finish earned Lumber Co. a National Berth to the Great Lakes National Tournament in Blaine, MN over Labor Day Weekend, August 30th and 31st. The NIT featured teams from 3 states including Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota. LoCo opened the tourney with a 13-9 win over Stevenson Auto Repair from Buckingham, IL. LoCo was lead by E.Boe's 4 hits and J.Filas' 3 base knocks. In game 2 LoCo was matced up against Primetime from Joliet. Lumber Co. won this game by a final score of 6 to 5. K.Wallace lead the LoCo with 3 hits and S.Munday, J.Lesnik, J.Filas and R.Nurczyk all chipped in with 2. Lumber Company's final game on Saturday was against Roaddawgs, also from Joliet. Lumber Company mounted a 3 run two out rally in the bottom of the 7th to win this game 9 to 8. R.Nurczyk and M.Wallace each had big 2 out RBI singles to keep the game alive, with the winning run scoring off the bat of B.Munday. Having good games for the Lumber Co. were B.Walsh and M.Wallace with 3 hits a piece and J.Filas, E.Boe, B.Munday and S.Munday all adding 2 hits each. Lumber Co.'s first game on Sunday was against Michigan Mush, from Warren, MI. Michigan Mush is the number 1 ranked "D" team in the state of Michigan. The LoCo's bats were cold and the MI squad defeated them by a final score of 13-4. Jeff Behun had 3 hits for the Lumber Co. in the losing effort. LoCo's final game of the tournament was a tough 17-12 loss to Spare Parts from Arlington Heights, IL. LoCo scored 5 runs in the top of the fifth to take a 12-9 lead, but Spare Parts was able to answer with 5 of their own runs in the bottom of the frame to go up 14-12, then came back with 3 more runs in the 6th while holding the LoCo scoreless in both the 6th and 7th innings. Lumber Company's top hitters for the weekend were K.Wallace, .600; M.Wallace, .588; B.Walsh, .562; J.Filas, .529; J.Lesnik, .500 and R.Nurzcyk, .500. Lumber Company's next game is Tuesday night at 8:30pm against Kubinski Excavating on field #3. Below is a clip of M.Staab hitting against Michigan Mushimage
