Lumber Co. takes 4th in JPD Spring Tourney

Lumber Company posted a 4-2 record in this weekend's Joliet Spring Training Tournament to take 4th place out of the 23 team field. Lumber Co. opened the tourney strong, crushing Dream's by a score of 20-2 in 3 innings. Bob Munday (3B), Ryan Nurczyk (RC) and Kenny Wallace (P) all had 3 hits and Jeff Behun (L) homered to lead the offense. LoCo's second game was against Roaddawgs. The Roaddawg bats were hot as they defeated the Lumber Co. by a final of 26-9. Matt Wallace (SS) had 3 hits in the losing effort. Lumber Company rebounded in their 3rd game knocking off the Pipefitters by a final score of 21-16. Matt Staab (RF) had 5 hits and Bob Munday homered to lead the Lumber Company. Next up for the Lumber Co. was Avalanche. Lumber Company had no trouble in this game, winning by the 15 run rule, 20-4 in 4 innings. Eric Boe (LC), Ryan Nurczyk, Matt Wallace, Kenny Wallace and Jim Lesnik (2B) all had 3 hits in this game. Boe also homered. LoCo's 5th game of the day was against Demolition. This was another 4 inning game with Lumber Co winning by the 15 run rule again, the final score was Lumber Company 28, Demolition 7. Eric Boe and Kenny Wallace both had 4 hits and Ryan Nurczyk homered to lead the Lumber Company. LoCo's final game of the day was against Uncle Richies. Uncle Richies knocked the LoCo out of the tournament winning the game 13-10. Nurczyk had a 3 run home run in this game. Overall the weekend was successful, we got to play 6 games to tune up for USSSA tournament action and won the 4th place prize of $100. Also, another 4th place finish in a 20 plus team tournament field is a good sign of things to come in 2003. For most of this tournament the Lumber Company bats were hot. The team average for the tournament was .659, with an 18 run per game average. The defense was a little sloppy, but it is only April. Leading the LoCo with the bats this weekend were Matt Wallace, .800; Matt Staab, .777; Ryan Nurczyk, .762; Eric Boe, .727; Bob Munday, .714; Jim Lesnik, .688; Brad Walsh, .632; Kenny Wallace, .619; Jeff Behun, .588 and Bret Petersen, .539. Lumber Company's next games will be in this coming weekend's USSSA "D" Qualifier in Joliet on May 3rd and 4th.image
