9-10 AGE GROUP FULL, AND 7-8 NEARLY FULL

Posted by Jim Allen on Oct 12 2005 at 05:00PM PDT

OCTOBER 13 UPDATE: At this writing, the age 9-10 division is full, and the 7-8 division is not far behind. If when you go online to register, and your division is FULL, please send an email to playball@nmboll.org, and be sure to include the following information:

  • Child's Name
  • Child's Date of Birth
  • The residence address of at least one parent who lives in our district
  • Phone number(s) at which you can be reached.

You will be placed on a waiting list in the order your email is received, and advised if any openings occur.

To register on-line, click on the link at the top of this page and follow the instructions there. You will still have to deliver to us some papers, but you will be able to complete the lion’s share of the process from the comfort of your home.

Registration involves the following basic steps:

1.      Make sure your child is eligible by age and residence

2.      Fill out a registration form (either online or on paper)

3.      Read the Parent and Child Codes of Conduct, and sign the Parent and Child Agreement (either online or on paper)

4.      Fill out a volunteer form (on paper only)

5.      Submit to us the completed registration package and fee.

Let’s go through each step in more detail:

Step 1: Make sure your child is eligible to play in our league.

To be eligible for baseball in the NMBOLL, players must be between the ages of 5 and 16 on April 30, 2006. We also offer softball for girls between 9 and 14. For softball, the cutoff date is December 31, not April 30. Note that both of these dates are new; we no longer use the old cutoff of July 31.

In addition to meeting the age qualification, one of the child’s parents must live in our district. Our district map can be found on our website, and is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east; County Line Road on the north; I-95 on the west, and the southern boundaries of the cities of North Miami Beach and Surfside on the South.

If neither of the child’s parents currently lives in the district, you must either find another League for the district in which you live, or if you really want to play in our league, please email Player Agent Loretta Mufson  (lmufson@nmboll.org) to discuss obtaining a waiver of the residency requirements from Little League International in Williamsport, PA.

Step 2: Fill out a Player Registration Form

Registration is fairly self-explanatory, but here’s some guidance for areas that are new or have caused confusion in the past:

Uniform Sizes. Please enter the size your child will wear for the jersey and pants, the following table of size equivalents may help you decide.

.

Step 3: Read the Parent and Child Codes of Conduct, and sign the Parent and Child Agreement

Although the NMBOLL has largely avoided the horror stories of physical violence in youth sports we see in other leagues, we have unfortunately witnessed displays of inappropriate conduct by coaches, parents, and players alike. Your Board has therefore decided that to insure that everyone recognizes the importance of sportsmanship, all players and parents must read their respective code of conduct, as well as the Policy of Enforcement. When you register online, the codes are included in the initial waiver section, and when you check them (as you must to continue), you are stating that you have read them with your child and agree to abide by them.

We also require ALL PARENTS, MANAGERS, AND COACHES TO ATTEND A PRESEASON MEETING, where we will review not only sportsmanship, but also player safety and other important issues. As you can see from our policy of enforcement of these Codes, we have a very low tolerance for Code violations , especially with respect to disputes with umpires, so please do not ignore this important step!

Step 4: Fill out a Parent Volunteer Form

We hope to see a large number of you parents volunteering. Please fill out the Little League Volunteer Form (which is NOT part of the online process, but which you can find in the handout below), choosing a role that you will enjoy. As you may know, if your volunteer position places you with repetitive access to or contact with kids, Little League requires us to conduct a background investigation on all volunteers.

Step 5: Submit the Completed Player Registration Form, the Volunteer Form, the Registration Fee, and a Copy of the Child’s Birth Certificate.

After you register online, you’ll still need to bring to us the copy of your child’s birth certificate and the Little League Volunteer Application (assuming you’re volunteering) in some other way. That’s it for the registration process. It probably seems like a lot of work, but once you see your child out on the field, it will surely be worth it!

[1]          Of course, it is part of every Little League’s charter that no child be turned away from Little League for inability to pay. If you are not able to pay fees, and are willing and able to demonstrate that by filling out our scholarship application (in this packet, and also available on our website), your child will be able to play ball.

[2]          There will be a $25.00 service charge for all returned checks. Refunds will be permitted, subject to a $25 service charge, up to November 9, 2005. After that date, when teams are formed, no refunds will be given.
