How Do I Register my Child?

NMBOLL registration is open from October 24 through November 28, 2004.

Now that Registration weekend is over, you have TWO choices: On-line or by mail.

·        To register on-line, go to the link at the top of our home page and follow the instructions there. You will still have to deliver to us some papers, but you will be able to complete the lion’s share of the process from the comfort of your home.

·        To register by mail, download a registration package (found in Handouts) or pick one up at:

o       North Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department (Silver Youth Center), 17051 NE 19th Avenue, North Miami Beach 33162

o       City of Sunny Isles Beach City Hall, Suite 250, 17070 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach 33160

o       Golden Beach Town Hall, 1 Golden Beach Drive, Golden Beach 33160.

Then mail your completed package to:

North Miami Beach Optimist Little League
            PO Box 600022
            North Miami Beach, FL 33160-0022
MAKE SURE YOUR PACKAGE IS POSTMARKED BY NOVEMBER 28.

Both registration methods involve the same basic steps:

1.      Make sure your child is eligible by age and residence

2.      Fill out a registration form

3.      Read the Parent and Child Codes of Conduct, and sign the Parent and Child Agreement

4.      Fill out a parent volunteer form—this will save you $25 per parent volunteering per family!!

5.      Submit to us the completed registration package and fee.

Let’s go through each step in more detail:

Step 1: Make sure your child is eligible to play in our league.

To be eligible for the NMBOLL, players must be between the ages of 5 and 16 on July 31, 2005. In addition to meeting the age qualification, one of the child’s parents must live in our district. Our district map can be found on our website, and is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east; County Line Road on the north; I-95 on the west, and the southern boundaries of the cities of North Miami Beach and Sunny Isles Beach on the South.

If neither of the child’s parents currently lives in the district, you must either find another League for the district in which you live, or if you really want to play in our league (and who can blame you!), please call President Jim Allen (305.776.3889) to discuss obtaining a waiver of the residency requirements from Little League International in Williamsport, PA.

Step 2: Fill out a Player Registration Form

The Registration Form is fairly self-explanatory, but here’s some guidance for areas that are new or have caused confusion in the past:

·        Player information. Note that we are now offering softball for girls 9 and up; if your daughter wishes to play softball rather than baseball, please circle softball.

We ask for your child’s email address and phone number for his or her coach’s use. Generally, the child’s phone will be the same as one or both parents, but in the event the family is no longer living together, we need to know which of the two parents’ phone numbers should be used for the child. Please provide the child’s email address if it is different from either of the parents.

Uniform Sizes. Please write down the size your child will wear for the jersey and pants, the following table of size equivalents may help you decide.

When in doubt, select the larger size, especially for the jersey. Please include your child’s height and weight; this helps us in ordering the uniforms.

·        Parent information. Please provide all telephone and email options for each parent. Each parent must check either yes or no for volunteering. A parent who checks yes must also fill out the NMBOLL and Little League volunteer forms (see Step 4). This will entitle you to a $25 dollar reduction in registration fees per family.

·        Don’t forget to sign the form on the back!

Step 3: Read the Parent and Child Codes of Conduct, and sign the Parent and Child Agreement

Although the NMBOLL has largely avoided the horror stories of physical violence in youth sports we see in other leagues, we have unfortunately witnessed displays of inappropriate conduct by coaches, parents, and players alike. Your Board has therefore decided that to insure that everyone recognizes the importance of sportsmanship, all players and parents must read their respective code of conduct, as well as the Policy of Enforcement, and sign the Parent and Child Agreement. We encourage families to review and discuss the principles stated in the Codes together (especially those with children too young to read!)

We also require ALL PARENTS, MANAGERS, AND COACHES TO ATTEND A PRESEASON MEETING ON JANUARY 10, where we will review not only sportsmanship, but also player safety and other important issues. As you can see from the enclosed policy of enforcement of these Codes, we will have a very low tolerance for Code violations this year, especially with respect to disputes with umpires, so please do not ignore this important step!

Step 4: Fill out a Parent Volunteer Form, and Save $25!!

We hope to see a large number of you parents volunteering. Not only does it put $25 in your pocket, but also it makes your League that much stronger. Please fill out the NMBOLL Volunteer Form, choosing a role that you will enjoy. As you may know, if your volunteer position places you with repetitive access to or contact with kids, Little League requires you to fill out the Little League Volunteer Application, and requires us to conduct a background investigation on all volunteers, each and every year.

Step 5: Submit the Completed Player Registration Form, the Parent Volunteer Form, the Registration Fee, and a Copy of the Child’s Birth Certificate.

Once you’ve completed the Registration Form, the NMBOLL Volunteer Form, and the Little League Volunteer Application, read the Codes of Conduct, and signed with your child the Parent and Child Agreement(yes, we know there are a lot of forms!), there are only a few things left to do.

First, if you are new to the league, or if your child is Little League age 9 (i.e., 9 as of 7/31/05) or younger, pull out your child’s birth certificate, and make a copy of it for us. (If you were in the league previously, and your child is now 10 or older, we should have a copy already. If we don’t, we’ll let you know!)

Second, you will need to pay for the registration.[1] As a result of rising equipment and uniform costs, and to allow us to furnish the highest quality of baseball training possible, we have been forced to raise our registration fees this year. Fees for the entire season, which includes a full uniform, trophies, and insurance, are as follows:

o       $105 for Little League ages 5-8;

o       $115 for ages 9-10;

o       $125 for ages 11 and up.

Checks should be made payable to “North Miami Beach Optimist Little League, Inc.” Remember, though, that you can effectively “roll back” this fee increase close to last year’s level by volunteering to help the league in a meaningful way.

There’s another way you can “roll back” your registration fee for next year even more—to zero!! All you have to do is bring into the league a new sponsor. It’s our small way of saying thank you for helping us help you. (For more information on sponsorship, please see the Sponsor section on our website and the 2005 Sponsor Information form attached.)

Third, you need to gather all these materials and get them to us. This is what you need to submit:

·        Signed and Completed Registration Form

·        Check for registration fees [2] (or Scholarship Form (if needed) )

·        Signed Parent and Child Agreement

·        NMBOLL Volunteer Form (assuming you want to volunteer) and Little League Volunteer Application (ditto)

Please mail them to the following address:

North Miami Beach Optimist Little League, Inc.
P.O. Box 600022
North Miami Beach, Florida 33160—0022

If you register online, you will submit the registration form, the fees, the NMBOLL Volunteer Form, and the Codes of Conduct. You’ll still need to get to us the copy of your child’s birth certificate and the Little League Volunteer Application (assuming you’re volunteering) by mailing them to the PO Box above.

That’s it for the registration process. It probably seems like a lot of work, but once you see your child out on the field, it will surely be worth it!

[1]           Of course, it is part of every Little League’s charter that no child be turned away from Little League for inability to pay. If you are not able to pay fees, and are willing and able to demonstrate that by filling out our scholarship application (in this packet, and also available on our website), your child will be able to play ball.

[2]           There will be a $25.00 service charge for all returned checks. Refunds will be permitted, subject to a $25 service charge, up to December 12, 2004. After that date, when teams are formed, no refunds will be given.
