Your Board has determined that we MUST hold ourselves to the HIGHEST standard of conduct when it comes to our kids. Although we have largely avoided the horror stroies of physical violence in youth sports that we hear and read about, we are far from perfect. Therefore, we are requiring every child and parent registering to read (or have read to) the Codes of Conduct set forth below, and to sign off on them.
We will also require ALL PARENTS, MANAGERS, AND COACHES TO ATTEND A PRESEASON MEETING ON JANUARY 10, starting at 7:00 p.m. where we will review not only sportsmanship, but also player safety and other important issues.
As you can see from the policy of enforcement of these Codes, we will have a very low tolerance for Code violations this year, especially with respect to disputes with umpires, because nothing is more important than teaching our kids by example how to respect authority and how to win and lose graciously.
North Miami Beach Optimist Little League PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT
WHEREAS the essential elements of character building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Good Citizenship, and
WHEREAS the highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these “six pillars of character,”
As a condition to the North Miami Beach Optimist Little League allowing my child and his or her family to participate in the League, I/we:
ü will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.
ü and our guests will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and be demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at every game, practice, or event.
ü and our guests will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language or gestures.
ü will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at the playing field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.
ü will remember that the actions of players, parents, managers, coaches, umpires and league officials must be above reproach. Any player, parent, manager, coach, or umpire who is involved in a verbal or physical altercations or an incident of unsportsmanlike conduct at the game site or any other Little League activity is subject to disciplinary action by the Board of Directors.
ü will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning. I will also de-emphasize games and competition in the lower age groups.
ü will insist that my child treat other players, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex, or ability.
ü will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.
ü will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my child feel like a winner every time.
ü will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition.
ü will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.
ü will not force my child to participate in sports.
ü will inform the manager of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or of others.
ü will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.
ü will not encourage and behavior or practice that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.
ü will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
ü will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.
ü will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.
North Miami Beach Optimist Little League PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT
In exchange for being allowed to play baseball in the NMBOLL, I:
· will show respect to all game officials, coaches, players, and parents and never act in a manner that would disrespect them, my teammates, my league, or myself.
· will display good sportsmanship.
· will not argue with or speak disrespectfully to a manager, coach, umpire, or opposing player.
· will make every effort to attend all scheduled practices and games and will make sure my coach or manager knows in advance if my attendance is not possible.
· will play fair and strive to win, but win or lose I will always do my best.
· will shake hands with the opposing team and the officials at the conclusion of all games.
· will review the NMBOLL safety rules with my manager and my parents, and will try my best to obey them.
· understand that I may be suspended for any violation of this Player’s Code Of Conduct.

POLICY FOR ENFORCEMENT OF
CODE OF CONDUCT
1. Reporting of Code Violations
a. Any parent, volunteer, or player may (and should) report any code violation to the League. All such reports should be made in writing to the Disciplinary Committee within 24 hours of the offense.
b. The umpire MUST report to the League President within 24 hours of the end of a game all violations of rules and other incidents worthy of comment, including but not limited to the disqualification of any manager, coach, or player, and the reasons therefor.
2. Disposition of Code Violations
a. Non-ejection offenses by players shall be referred in most cases to the team Manager for disposition, although the Disciplinary Committee retains the discretion to address the violation itself.
b. Non ejection parent and other adult offenses shall be referred to the Vice President of the involved division for disposition, although the Committee retains the discretion to address the violation itself.
c. Violations which resulted in game ejection shall be dealt with in accordance with Little League Rule 9.05(c):
After receiving the umpire’s report that a manager coach, or player has been disqualified, the league president shall require such manager, coach, or player to appear before the Committee to explain their conduct. In the case of a player, the manager shall appear with the player in the capacity of an advisor. The Committee shall impose such penalty as they determine to be justified, but in no event shall the punishment be less than that required by Rule 4.07 (1 game suspension in addition to the game from which the player or coach was ejected).
3. Progressive Discipline. The league requires strict adherence to its Codes of Conduct. Violations will be punished severely and progressively. The following range will be utilized in imposing discipline.
a. Non-ejection offenses:
i. First offense: From warning to 1 game suspension
ii. Second offense: From 1 game to 3 game suspension
iii. Third offense: From 3 game suspension to ejection from the league for the remainder of the season.
b. Ejection offenses
i. First offense: From 1 game to 3 game suspension
ii. Second offense: From 3 game suspension to ejection from the league for the remainder of the season.
iii. Third offense: Ejection from the league for the remainder of the season.
c. All-star and tournament team eligibility. No player, coach, or manager, who is ejected from a game more than one time in a season, or more than twice in their career in the NMBOLL, shall be eligible for All-Stars or tournament teams that season.
4. Appeals
a. Any person may appeal the decision of the Committee by submitting the appeal in writing to the Board of Directors for review.
