Monday, July 23rd
Coach Neil got us officially registered at the AFA 16U "A" Nationals!  The team is starting to arrive at our "team hotel".  We are staying at the Comfort Suites in Independence, MO.  Really close to the ballfields, the Independence Mall and tons of restaurants, etc.  Good location, and the rooms are spacious and nice.

Coach Neil and Coach Tony headed over to the Manager's meeting, and we intend to meet as many of the team as is possible at Blue Springs South High School at 4:30 pm for the picnic and Opening Ceremonies at 7:00 pm.  Should be fun!  Games start tomorrow at 11:00 pm, but the Diamond Cats don't play until 5:00 pm!  Check back here tomorrow to see how we did!

Tuesday, July 24th
Played our first game at 5:00 pm today. We beat the Kansas City Elite team 17 - 0. We then had time to eat and cool off before we played a good Sedalia Sizzler team at 9:30 pm. We had a tight game going until the 6th inning when we managed to put 4 runs on the board and end up winning 5 - 0. Good games played by all!

Tomorrow we have a game at 12:30 pm against a team from Oklahoma. It has been fun playing teams we don't normally play! We have watched some good St. Louis teams play, and we will keep updating here! Check back here tomorrow to see how we did!

Wednesday, July 25th
Played our last pool game at 12:30 pm today! We beat a good Oklahoma Rock 'n Fire team 10 - 3. The score doesn't reflect the fact that it took a tie-breaker inning for us to win! We went into the 8th inning tied up 1 - 1, and then in the tie-breaker inning we brought out our bats!!! Way to go, Cats. We won our pool and with our first round bye don't have to play until 11:30 am tomorrow.

We are going to take a group and go watch the KC Royals play the New York Yankees. Should be a fun game! Then, back to the rooms and rest up for bracket play! Check back here tomorrow to see how we did!

Thursday, July 26th
We lost our first bracket game today! We just made our road to the championship that much tougher. We came up against a very good Oklahoma Dynamites team, and we lost a heartbreaker to them 1 - 0! The girls played very hard in the heat, but just couldn't put our hits together. We then beat a Nebraska Quakes team 10 - 2. Wish we could have had a couple of these runs last game, but now we are in a lose and go home position, we will win however we can!.

We are going to go out to eat and try to get to bed early...we have a looooong day coming up, with at least 5 games to keep playing! Check back here tomorrow to see how we did!

Friday, July 27th
We started off the morning right by beating the Omaha Magic 8 - 5! We went from that game to a tough Germantown Red Devils team, and managed to beat them 7 - 2! We then took on a good Illinois Thunder team and won 6 - 4! The next game was against the Nebraska Jaguars, and we gave them 2 runs in the first inning! We came back and scored 1 and were entering the 6th inning losing 2 - 1 when the lightning started. Then came the rains and the game is scheduled to resume tomorrow!

We should have a game to complete and one more game to play to finish up our Friday games, then we would have 5 more to get to the championship! Hope they spread some of these out to Sunday if the rain held us up at all! The Esprit and the Diamond Cats are the last 2 St. Louis teams left in the tournament. We are now in the top 12 and shooting for the top 8 after our completed game in the morning...then back on the road to the championship! Check back here tomorrow to see how we did!

Saturday, July 28th
Wow!  What a great Nationals!  We came back at 8:00 am to finish up our game from Friday night, and we couldn't quite overcome our 1 game deficit.  We shut them down the last 2 innings, but unfortunately, they did the same to us.  The girls were absolutely pumped up and worked very hard to come from behind!  We are all very proud of their effort.  We wish the Stone City Marlins luck in the rest of the bracket...they shared a hotel with us and were great folks.

We came into Nationals with the ultimate goal of riding this amazing season as far as we could ride it - with the hopes of an AFA Championship, and we just fell a bit short!  BUT, we were NOT disappointed by the play or effort of the team.  Over our 5 days of play, we won 7 and lost 2, while scoring 64 runs and only giving up 19 (outscoring our opponents by 45 runs!) We finished the National Tournament tied for 9th, so they can certainly hold their heads high!  What an amazing group of girls (and families), and what an exciting season!

We start ASA 18U "B" Northern Nationals on Tuesday!  Check here to see how we do next week!
