Round One...

Posted by Bill Holden at Mar 4, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Mustangs started off their playoff run by playing the Walled Lake Wild tonight at Arctic Edge. Northville has won all previous games but the scores have all been fairly close (4-3, 4-2, 5-4, and 6-1). Tonight would prove to be no different. The game started off slow for both teams having no goals scored in the first period. Finally, halfway into the second period, Meredith Ponder took a shot (through Emily Doren's legs!) that bounced off the Wild goalie's shoulder and into the net putting Northville up 1-0. A few minutes later, Laura Zima took a shot from the red line that went right past the Wild goalie but was called back due to a Mustang penalty. Andrea Soloko struck next for the Mustangs, scoring off of a wrist shot with a pass from Bridget Hughes and Erin Hietala. Late in the third, Zima got her revenge and took a slap shot from the blue line, scoring the final goal of the game. LeeCee Criswell earned a shutout for the game. The girls play Plymouth Canton Salem on Wednesday at 6pm in the quarterfinals. So far this year, PCS has beaten Northville twice (2-0 and 5-2), but these teams have a long history of close games including last years quarterfinal game that ended in a PCS win after three hard fought overtime periods. This game should prove to be very interesting. Good Luck!

Senior Night ends in a loss

Posted by Bill Holden at Jan 31, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Mustangs had their senior night on Friday, January 27th at Novi Ice Arena. They faced off against Grosse Pointe South for the first time this season. South attacked first with a goal off of a South powerplay early in the first. Northville responded with two goals in thirty seconds; one by Bridget Hughes and the other by Anjali Saran. The first period remained 2-1 in Northville's favor until the end. South scored in the middle of the second to tie it up 2-2. With just two minutes left in the second period, Northville began to grow tired and let in two bad goals to put South up 4-2. While Northville had numerous shots on the South goalie in the third period, the Lady Devils still managed to get one more goal by goalie LeeCee Criswell for the final score of 5-2. All in all, the Mustangs played a great game and can't wait until they meet South again for a rematch. Congratulations to seniors Bridget Hughes, Megan Beger, Anjali Saran, Rachel Reuter, Claire Eley, Meredith Ponder, Erin Morrell, Laura Zima, Marie McIntyre, LeeCee Criswell and Emily Doren!
