Blazers Lose Re-Match To Cranbrook

Posted by Bruce Peck on Jan 18 2003 at 04:00PM PST
The Blazers lost a hard fought re-match to Cranbrook 6-4. It was a close game throughout that went back and forth. Junior Jenna Keenan began the scoring with an assist from senior Katie Karabelski. Cranbrook tied it up, but two unassisted goals by senior Sara Sharp gave the Blazers a two goal advantage. Cranbrook managed to get one back before the first period ended. Ladywood struck first in the second period with a goal by Molly Zarb on the power play. Junior Jess Blaesser picked up the assist. Less than a minute later, Cranbrook narrowed the lead to one. Ladywood's Sara Sharp then picked up a 4:00 double minor. Cranbrook scored during the first two minutes to tie the score, but Ladywood was able to kill off the second of the minor penalties. With :07 left in the period Cranbrook threw a shot at Ladywood's net from the corner and it found the five hole for a devastating goal to end the period. The third period was back and forth before Cranbrook scored with 7:07 left in the game to secure the victory. The Blazers put an extra attacker on the ice with 1:10 left in the game and kept the pressure on the Cranbrook goalie with four good scoring opportunities, but it was to no avail.
