The Long Ball Club Practice Plan for the Coaches

Posted by Patrick Piteo on Feb 13 2003 at 04:00PM PST

1. (VERY IMPORTANT) Have a lesson plan for each practice that you hold. 2. Before practice, be sure to properly stretch for 10 minutes. 3. Start by having each child warm up there arms for about 5 minutes. 4. Split the group up into outfielder's and infielder's. Providing you have two coaches then run drills for infielders and outfielders cover something different each time. Do this for 15 minutes and then switch the kids. 5. Batting Practice always consumes majority of the practice. I recommend that your team does not hit every practice but when you do, have nine players in position and have the others working on pitching drills or other fundamentals. NEVER KEEP THEM BORED! (Soft Tosses, Tee-Drills are extremely helpful for kids.) 6. Always incorporate base running drills at the end of each practice, the kids are full of energy so let them run, and there parents will thank you because when they get home they will be nice and tired.
