EVENT MOVED TO SAM HOUSTON JONES STATE PARK DUE TO THE CITGO OIL SPILL!!! Concept: A handicapped practice triathlon for LCT members and "invited" guests. (To be "invited" simply send an email to shjones62@cs.com at least 12 hours before the race.) Purpose: Fundraiser for Shari & Neill Rowland's son, Ian, who has some special medical needs. All proceeds are paid to "Ian's Medical Fund". Date: (New date & new location) JULY 4TH at 7 a.m. at Sam Houston Jones State Park (moved from Lafleur Beach). [Memorial Day cancelled due to inclimate weather.] Cost: Minimum contribution of $20 for members; $25 for non-members. (LCT will add an add'l $10 per clubmember present at the event.) 100% of the monies collected go to Ian's Medical Fund. Park entry fee is $1 per person at the gate. Distance (approx.): 525m swim / ~17 mi bike / ~3 mi run / plus a "mystery event" or two thrown in somewhere! BRING AN EXTRA PAIR OF SHOES!!! Overview of rules: Handicaps to be established using extrapolated numbers from the most recent T-Gator Series triathlon. Where such is not possible, estimates will be made by the race committee. The participants with the highest time handicaps will start first. Max "normal" handicap is 30 min but all participants may purchase additional minutes as follows: $5/min for first 5 min; $3/min for next 5 min; $2/min for final 5 min. Maximum purchased minutes is 15 min or 50% of your normal handicap, whichever is smaller. [For example, someone with a 10 min normal handicap may only purchase an additional 5 min while someone with a 30 min handicap may purchase the full 15 min max.] (Remember, the idea is to have fun with this but above all to raise money for Ian.) Some bike racks will be set up but participants are free to use any kind of transition area they wish. Anyone arriving late and missing his or her designated swim start must simply start as quickly as he or she can --- too bad. As per USAT rules, drafting will NOT be permitted (know the 15-sec rule!). Participants are on the "honor system" with regards to fair play and completing the entire course. There are no officials and no race director. ALL PARTICIPANTS COMPETE AT THEIR OWN RISK! This is an open traffic competition and participants are expected to obey all traffic laws. LCT does not make any claims to the safety of this course and should not be held responsible in the event of an accident.
