Inter Continues Its Strong Play at CASL

Posted by Alan Olson on Nov 21 2008 at 04:00PM PST

22 Nov. '08.  Back out at the WRAL on a bright, sunny, breezy, cold morning, the Internationals faced the Wellington Wave, Florida Champs 2008.  The Wave is a solid team all around and worked hard from start to finish.  In the first half, the Internationals' vaunted defense held the Wave to no shots or corners taken while committing 4 fouls (including 1 handball).  The Internationals controlled most of the play, taking 5 shots on goal and set up 3 corner kicks while committing 12 fouls (including 3 offisdes).  Alas, at the 33 min. mark, Patrick collected a ball in the middle and threaded a needle pass through the defenders to Schillo inside the box who collect the ball near 15 yds., juked the GK and struck in the easy go-ahead goal.

In the 2nd half, Inter's strong defense continued to shut down the Wave, once again allowing no shots or corners while committing 4 fouls (including 1 high kick).  The Internationals again controlled most of the play, taking 4 shots on goal while committing 9 fouls.  At about the 20 min. mark, Skylar collected a ball on the right side, crossed it into the box where Chris ran onto the ball to kick the ball but it took a fortuitous bounce out to Schillo around 12-15 yds. center who slammed a hard, high shot which appeared to be sailing over the cros- bar but at the last second, the GK jumped up to attempt a finger-tip save and the ball spund downward just underneath the cross-bar intot the net to put the Internationals up by two goals, and the game ended, 2-0, Internationals.
