Lions Varsity scratches out a Homecoming victory over Cougars 44-22    The Canton Lions improve their record to 5-0 behind the strong play of the O-Line. James Dodge, Austin Banfield, and company made holes all day for RB Malcolm Hollingsworth to exploit, Hollingsworth finished with 4TD’s. QB Jamarl Eiland turned in another productive day passing, including a TD toss to Nate Emminger. Emminger added a kickoff return for a TD late in the game. A Lion fumble could have been a disaster had it not been for the heads up play of WR Tony Nyberg, who recovered the loose ball. The D found a new big hitter in Wally Turner, who plays both S and LB. Alex Smith and Lucas Bunting spent most of the afternoon in the Belleville backfield putting a stop to plays before they could get going. Brandon Lee, Cody Korpus, and Brendan Swanson were all instrumental in stopping the Cougars strong sweep attack. The Lions will try to remain undefeated as they welcome the Lake Area Hawks next Sunday October 5th.

JV takes it to the air vs. Cougars  The Canton Lions JV Squad fought hard against the Belleville Cougars but fell short (14-20). Offensively, the Lions went to the air and scored on a (46) yard fake punt pass from Evan Thomas to James Hall. Thomas also added the PAT kick for (2) points. The next score was a (4) yard TD pass from Allante Wheeler to James Hall, however the PAT kick failed to end the Lions scoring @ (14) points. Defensively, there were several outstanding efforts; Charles Turfe, Daniel Jipping, Forest Hall, Daniel Kilgore, Kenny Arnold, and Kyle Murry.

Freshman fall seconds short of victory, fall 20-14   The Freshman Lions played another exciting game as they had the ball on the Cougars four-yard line with just seconds to play but could not punch it in for a touchdown and lost 20-14.  The entire team put in a strong, spirited effort and was led on defense by Joseph Glunt, Jackson Austin, Matthew Wayne, David Mason, and Kyrece Smith.  Offensively, the Lions moved the ball all day behind the blocking of Mason Robichaud, Eric Daniels, and Patrick Wayne.

Junior Freshman continue to show improvement against CougarsThe Lions’ junior freshmen continued to show improvement as they steadily moved the ball up and down the field against the Cougars.  The team showed their most solid overall performance of the year.  Spencer Brown opened up the running game in the first half while Guido Costantino took the ball up the middle for several long gains.  Kollin Murray excelled with his long snapping ability in the shotgun and Jack Underwood was perfect at his center position.  Devin Farmer and Trevor LaPere continued their consistent play on offense and defense the entire day.  Defensively the Lions’ Cody Tapp and Mason Lamarand held back the Cougar offense with their hard hitting.  Mathew Palukas and Luke Bonifacio played key roles on the defense as they stepped up with several solid plays during the day.
