Corinthian Casuals 1 Westfield 5

Mark Robson made a real impact on his return to the starting line up after injury and illness, he grabbed two goals and had a big influence on the match with his crisp passing. On a smallish pitch that was very heavy through the middle it took ‘Field a while to settle, but once they did and started giving some quality ball to Jamie Folley down the right they caused Casuals numerous problems. It was one of Folley’s powerful runs that created the first goal, his precise cut back was firmly struck home giving the keeper no chance by Jamie Locke to open the scoring. Just prior to half time Robson got his first, his powerful drive from the edge of the box nestling in the corner of the net. ‘Field played some really good stuff in the second half, Folley’s well delivered corner was powerfully headed home by Robson for number three, James Kealy reacted quickly in the box to thump home the fourth and Nick Worsley used his pace to burst though and score the fifth. Scott Pinnells made a fine late save but was helpless to stop a late consolation that Casuals deserved for their effort. Dave Shutt reverted to defensive duties after some good performances in midfield and had a really good game shackling Casuals dangerous and pacy striker. Team: Pinnells, Galbraith, Buckland, Shutt, Pestle, Jarman, Mark Robson, Mike Robson, Folley, Lewiston, Locke. Subs: Worsley, Kealy, Melinn

Westfield 1 Oakway 0

’Field followed excellent performance of the previous week with a typical after the Lord Mayors Show display. They started the game very brightly and hardly gave the ball away for a first ten mins of good movement and sharp passing but seemed to lack the passion of the previous week and coasted through the rest of the game. Oakway for their part we hungry and worked very hard for each other throughout competing hard for every ball. ‘Field’s goal came midway through the first half when Jamie Folley’s surging run and deep cross found James Kealy at the far post, he showed great composure in front of goal to slot home what proved to be the only goal of the game. Throughout the game ‘Field created several good chances and were guilty of a number of bad misses when in good positions, Oakway gained some confidence from this and fine late strike forced an excellent save from Scotty Pinnells in the home goal capping his competent display between the sticks. Steve Buckland continued his consistent good form with another solid performance at centre back. Team: Pinnells, Galbraith, Melinn, Buckland, Jarman, Kealy, Shutt, Mike Robson, Folley, Lewiston, Locke. Subs: Worsley, Pestle, MarkRobson.

Wandgas 1 Westfield 5

Posted by Vic Locke at Feb 8, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
’Field started very strongly looking very fired up for this crucial game between the divisions only two unbeaten sides. A tremendous first half performance of good football and hard work was rewarded with goals from Jamie Locke the opener and Sam Lewiston the second after fine work from Jamie Folley down the right. As would be expected Wandgas came out all guns blazing in the second half, good defensive work from Ross Mellin, Steve Buckland, Joe Byrne and keeper Liam Stone keeping them at bay during their best spell, they did however deservedly pull a goal back. This seemed to spur ‘Field on again with Mike Robson, Dave Shutt and Max Galbraith now bossing the midfield a great run from Folley was ended by a foul in the box and cool as you like up stepped Chrissie Pestle to restore ‘Field’s two goal advantage. This seemed to break ‘Gas and it was no supprise when Lewiston made it four. James Jarman then entered the fray to shore things up at the back with James Kealy coming on up front his great turn and strike thumping the post late on before Lewiston completed his hatrick and put the seal on a fine team performance. Team: Stone, Byrne, Melinn, Buckland, Pestle, Galbraith, Shutt, Mike Robson, Folley, Lewiston, Locke. Subs: Jarman, Kealy, Robson.
