Steve played four years as Midfielder for Miamisburg and was Captain his senior year. He made Second Team All Mid-Miami League in his junior year and First Team All Mid-Miami League and named Most Valuable Player his senior year. Steve went on to earn a Bachelors degree from Northwestern University in 1990. He currently lives in Auckland, New Zealand.

Coach Ric Campbell will be at the helm of the MHS soccer program for his third year and his 7th season as a varsity head coach.  His 35+ years of soccer experience as a player, trainer and coach have given him many examples of play to draw from as he looks to improve the team and each young man.  His passion for the game is unrivaled and he wants to ignite the same passion in his players.

He has put together a staff of coaches who share the same core values and embrace a coaching philosophy that will push athletes towards excellence….excellence in every area of the athlete’s life.  He wants to develop a culture that motivates Miamisburg soccer players to become better family members, better siblings, better students, better classmates and better players.  Coach Ric wants to aid parents in developing young men of character both on and off the field.

Coach Kevin O’Donnel will be entering his second season as the Reserve coach and third on the high school staff.  He also is the team's Strength and Conditioning coach.  He has coached select soccer for many years and coached wrestling and rugby at the high school level.  His ability to push players towards their potential and to assure they are ready for competition is first rate.

The reserve squad in 2007 had a breakout season going 10-3-3.  They had 10 shutouts and conceded only 9 goals.

Coach Jerry Randolph is starting his second year as an Assistant to both squads.  He is a 1984 Miamisburg graduate who participated in soccer all four years.  He led the team in scoring and was selected 2nd Team All-Conference his senior season.  He has coached  select youth soccer in Miamisburg for many years.  Coach Jerry looks to instill a love for the game in each player that will drive them towards giving their best effort….first time, every time.

BOYS SOCCER TEAM RULES AND GUIDES

Posted by Terry Stump at Jun 18, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The coaching staff does not have a lot of rules for the team, but the ones we do have we expect to be taken serious.  Adherence is a must.  Players will do what is expected of them or they will lose out on being able to fully contribute.  We know that each situation “can” be unique, but it is not hard to know right from wrong and whether you followed the team rules.

TEAM RULES

  1. MOST IMPORTANT- If you have a question, problem or concern you must go to the coaching staff to bring about resolution. It is the player’s duty to talk with the coaches when an issue arises.  The coaches are not mind-readers….PLEASE come talk to us.
  2.  Playing time is earned, not guaranteed.   It is the player’s responsibility to meet the expectations.  Each player must daily push themselves to reach their potential.
  3. You must be a player of character…..your dress, your talk, your walk and your actions should be respectful at all times.  People watching us should be “WOWED” by our presence.
  4. You must be a teammate first…..criticizing other players on or off the field will not happen.  We must be a positive influence for each other in word and action. You must be able to count on your teammates and they must be able to count on you at all times.
  5. When a coach is providing instruction, no one else is to be talking.   We will always allow you time to provide input or ask questions, but wait until after the instruction is provided.
  6. You must call Coach Ric or Coach Kevin if you cannot make a game or practice.  You should also call if you know you are going to be late.  Do this ahead of time, not after the fact.
  7. It is your responsibility to take care of your uniforms and equipment.  You need to bring all jerseys to every match.  They need to be clean and presentable when you enter the stadium.

  PLAYER SUGGESTIONS

  1. Come 15 minutes early to each practice and game.  Those who are early will never be late.   This allows you time to cope with the unexpected.
  2. Purchase a very nice pair of molded cleats as your main playing shoes. Do this in late June so that you have time to break them in properly.  A cheaper pair of screw-in cleats is great for wet days if you have the means.   Always pack a back up shoe in case a cleat rips during play.
  3. Attend as many OPTIONAL off-season sessions as possible.  This allows the coaching staff to learn a little about you before the season kicks-off and for you to learn about the coaches.
  4. Maintain an athletic locker during the season.  This will allow you to be prepared for any weather conditions.   Extra change of clothes, sweats, hat, gloves, towel and toiletries are a must.
  5. Never EVER walk barefoot anywhere except the shower. Your feet are the key to your season, protect them at all times.  You cannot afford to miss time because of a careless cut or injury.

BOYS SOCCER COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Posted by Terry Stump at Jun 18, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

-         We BELIEVE that our main focus should be to train our players to be young men of character; respecting the game, the referees, the opponents and our program.
-         We BELIEVE that our core values should be a daily focus for each player; reinforcing the need for each player to control themselves at all times.
-         We BELIEVE that soccer is a competitive extra-curricular activity; thus academics come first and then a concentration on reaching one’s soccer potential.
-         We BELIEVE that the fastest way to reach your potential is to improve each day; accomplish growth in some area…physical, technical, tactical or ball skills.
-         We BELIEVE that setting individual player goals and team goals is important.  Motivation is what gets players started, but goals are what keep them going.
-         We BELIEVE it is our responsibility to create a learning environment that enhances the excitement of playing the game.  Our time together should be challenging and enjoyable.  Everyone should look forward to being tested.
-         We BELIEVE that winning is a by-product of our hard work and dedication to improvement.  TRUE winning is measured in the effort, not the scoreboard.
-         We BELIEVE that making the team is a privilege, thus it is the player’s responsibility to accept and follow the leadership of the coaching staff. Each player must accept his role within the squad for the betterment of the team.
-         We KNOW that sometimes life can be unfair and that individuals may not feel as if they have been treated properly. We also know that our attitude in discussing and handling these situations positively is what grows our character
-    We BELIEVE that we are what we repeatedly do.
Success, then, is not good luck, but the result of hard practices and a great attitude.

BOYS   SOCCER  CORE  VALUES

I am responsible for my own actions.  No one can make me do something I do not want to do.  I make the choices for how to act, react and behave.  I will choose right over wrong.

I will respect myself and those around me. I will always hold myself to a higher standard of action. I will consider the feelings of those around me.  I do not have to agree with everyone, but I will value them as a person treating them with dignity and respect.

I will listen to others.  I must be just as willing to listen, as I am to speak.  If I want to be heard, I must be willing to hear. I will receive instruction with a willing ear.

I will be truthful and honest.  I will tell the truth in every situation, no matter what the cost.  I will not deceive, half-truth or distort the facts.  There is no gray area in honesty, I either speak the truth or I am a liar.

I will be positive and speak positive.  I am a winner and I will talk and act like one. I will be an encouragement to those I come in contact with everyday.  I will lift people up all the time.  I will support my parents, teachers, coaches and teammates.

TRYOUT EXPECTATIONS

Posted by Terry Stump at Jun 18, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Tryouts will be set up in three distinct sessions:

Mon & Tue A.M. – Fitness sessions, as we will be measuring each player versus the expectations for the 2 mile run, the 1 mile run, the Beep Test and ball pushups & sit-ups.

Mon & Tue Mid-Day – Technical sessions, as we will be measuring each player versus the juggling expectations as well as numerous passing, dribbling, shooting and ball skill drills.

Mon & Tue P.M. – Tactical sessions, as we will be measuring each player versus each other in small sided games and full field scrimmages.

You should be able to achieve the following TRYOUT expectations to be considered for team selection:

- Run two miles in 14 minutes (14:00)

- Run one mile in 6 minutes and 12 seconds (6:12)

- Achieve 12 on the Beep Test (20 meter sprint drill)

- Perform 80 ball situps in 120 seconds

- Perform 60 ball pushups in 120 seconds

- 120 Ball juggles without the ball hitting the ground

- 60 consecutive foot juggles without the ball hitting the ground

Those players who are unable to achieve the tryout expectations hinder there chances for team selection
, but do NOT necessarily eliminate themselves from the selection process.  If selected, they will receive behavioral modification training (BMTs) to accelerate the learning curve and 70% achievement will be needed prior to game participation.

The first player cuts will be made on Tuesday after the evening practice.

Final cuts and team selection will be made on Friday after practice.
