BOYS SOCCER TEAM RULES AND GUIDES

Posted by Terry Stump on Jun 18 2007 at 05:00PM PDT

The coaching staff does not have a lot of rules for the team, but the ones we do have we expect to be taken serious.  Adherence is a must.  Players will do what is expected of them or they will lose out on being able to fully contribute.  We know that each situation “can” be unique, but it is not hard to know right from wrong and whether you followed the team rules.

TEAM RULES

  1. MOST IMPORTANT- If you have a question, problem or concern you must go to the coaching staff to bring about resolution. It is the player’s duty to talk with the coaches when an issue arises.  The coaches are not mind-readers….PLEASE come talk to us.
  2.  Playing time is earned, not guaranteed.   It is the player’s responsibility to meet the expectations.  Each player must daily push themselves to reach their potential.
  3. You must be a player of character…..your dress, your talk, your walk and your actions should be respectful at all times.  People watching us should be “WOWED” by our presence.
  4. You must be a teammate first…..criticizing other players on or off the field will not happen.  We must be a positive influence for each other in word and action. You must be able to count on your teammates and they must be able to count on you at all times.
  5. When a coach is providing instruction, no one else is to be talking.   We will always allow you time to provide input or ask questions, but wait until after the instruction is provided.
  6. You must call Coach Ric or Coach Kevin if you cannot make a game or practice.  You should also call if you know you are going to be late.  Do this ahead of time, not after the fact.
  7. It is your responsibility to take care of your uniforms and equipment.  You need to bring all jerseys to every match.  They need to be clean and presentable when you enter the stadium.

  PLAYER SUGGESTIONS

  1. Come 15 minutes early to each practice and game.  Those who are early will never be late.   This allows you time to cope with the unexpected.
  2. Purchase a very nice pair of molded cleats as your main playing shoes. Do this in late June so that you have time to break them in properly.  A cheaper pair of screw-in cleats is great for wet days if you have the means.   Always pack a back up shoe in case a cleat rips during play.
  3. Attend as many OPTIONAL off-season sessions as possible.  This allows the coaching staff to learn a little about you before the season kicks-off and for you to learn about the coaches.
  4. Maintain an athletic locker during the season.  This will allow you to be prepared for any weather conditions.   Extra change of clothes, sweats, hat, gloves, towel and toiletries are a must.
  5. Never EVER walk barefoot anywhere except the shower. Your feet are the key to your season, protect them at all times.  You cannot afford to miss time because of a careless cut or injury.
