LA JOLLA, CA - The Nova Masters fielded an outstanding mixed relay at the San Diego 10 mile open water relay. Here is a report from team captain Craig Taylor: They don’t have age groups or divisions – it’s all open. The winning team wore wetsuits & finished in 3:07+. Second overall was the San Diego team (all male) in 3:10:58. Third overall was……us – the “OC Novas” in 3:11:23, just 25 seconds behind the all male San Diego team, & 4 minutes back of the winners – also all male. Bernie won the award for the fastest 1-mile split of the day in 17:27 – he actually tied with another guy, but when they found that Bernie did it without a wetsuit, & the other guy wore a wetsuit, they gave the award to Bernie. Each of us swam faster in our second miles – splits were: Patrick – 18:40; 17:41 (he went off course in the first leg) Meg - 20:48; 20:31 Kathy – 20:20; 20:03 Craig – 19:18; 18:34 Bernie – 17:52; 17:27 A fun day – sunny, calm water, about 64 degrees. image
