HHS DEFEATS OAKLAND 11-5

The Commandos picked up a road win over the Murfreesboro Oakland Patriots on a sun-splashed Sunday afternoon at Mack Hawks Field in Murfreesboro.

7 different Commandos recorded hits including three-hit days from Seniors Austin Brown and Drew Richard. 

The Commandos led early 2-0 but trailed going into the top of the sixth by a score of 4-2.  With two outs in the sixth Cooper Brenning singled to right field which was followed by an RBI triple from Brown to make the score 4-3.  Brown scored as Braden Schwerdt reached on an error by the Patriot shortstop which tied the game.  A walk to Justin Long and a single by Richard gave HHS their first lead since the second inning at 5-4 and another two-out single from Connor Fischer scored Long to give HHS a 6-4 advantage.

Oakland rallied for a run in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 6-5.  Brandon Fuller came in out of the bulpen for the Commandos to leave the bases loaded for Oakland and give HHS a chance to tack on insurance runs in the top fo the seventh.  With two outs and no one on base in the top of the 7th Brenning reached on an infield error.  Jon Swindle came on to courtesy run for Brenning.  Swindle reached second when Brown singled to center and a walk to Schwerdt loaded the bases for Justin Long.  Long singled to right over the head of the leaping Patriots first baseman to score Swindle and Brown.  Long got in a run down between first and second allowing Schwerdt to score and a mishandled throw allowed Long to reatreat back to first base.  Richard singled for his third hit of the day and a single from Fischer scored Long and Richard who had moved up on a wild pitch to make the score 11-5.  Sophomore right-hander Andrew Dorris came on in the bottom of the seventh to retire the Patriots in order and preserve the win for the Commandos.  Justin Ernst earned his first career win on the mound as the Commandos used six pitchers on the day.
