Posted by Andy Gilley on Apr 29 2015 at 05:00PM PDT
The Commandos ended the 2015 regular season with a loss to Lipscomb Academy. Ben Smith did his best to will Commandos to a win with a two-hit game, but Commandos dropped a 18-7 contest to Lipscomb on Wednesday at Lipscomb. #12, #22, #33 and #2 helped lead Lipscomb. They combined for nine hits and nine RBIs. Austin Brown took the loss for Commandos. He allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out one. The top of the first saw Commandos take an early lead, 1-0. Lipscomb survived Commandos' surge and put up three runs of its own in the first. Lipscomb scored on an RBI double by #22, an RBI double by #33, and an RBI single by #2. Lipscomb never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring seven runs on a three-run double by #10, an error, and two singles. After pushing across two runs in the top of the third, Commandos faced just a 10-5 deficit. A two-run double by Austin Brown fueled Commandos' comeback. But, #9 got Braden Schwerdt to strike out to end the inning. It didn't take long for Lipscomb to answer as it scored five runs of its own in the third. Lipscomb scored on an RBI single by #22, a three-run home run by #33, and a sacrifice fly by #25. Two runs in the top of the fourth helped Commandos close its deficit to 15-7. A bases loaded walk by #9 and a sacrifice fly by Jarques Wordlaw gave Commandos life. Finally, #9 got Austin Brown to fly out to end the threat.
