2008 - Bantam
THE YEAR IN REVIEW: Closing out the 2008 season:
The most memorable moments. The 2008 season was a great season of fun and growth as a team. Injuries put the team behind the eight ball to start the season as both Ryan T and Christian B were sidelined most of the year. Christian never was able to take to the field but we sure hope he is going to return in 2009. Braydon G and Robbie W joined the team and Adam made his return. Dane emerged as one of the most dominant pitchers in YSBA and Ontario. Dane along with Graham gave the team some pretty solid pitching that would keep the team in any game they pitched. Eddie and Nathan anchored the outfield with Cody emerging as a solid infielder. Josh moved into the shortstop position left vacant by Christian and he made several plays that were often noticed by the other teams. Cole became the cornerstone behind the plate soaking up inning after inning. Every game was battle and there were many that went down to the final at-bat. What follows are the games that really highlight the boys at their best. Click on the links and count down the heart stopping moments from the summer gone by. Here are the most memorable games and moments for 2008:
Highlight 5: Barrie 6 - Markham 5. A late May regular season game that turned out to be a nine inning barn burner and served to highlight the potential and promise for the 2008 season. This game saw the emergence of Robbie at the plate and as the early season closer.
Highlight 4: Newmarket 9 – Barrie 8. Game One of the YSBA championships turns into an extra inning battle as a defensive miscue opened the door to allow Newmarket to get back into the game.
Highlight 3: Barrie 3 - Brampton AAA 2. Dane and Graham combined to pitch a gem with some excellent defense to earn a hard fought victory in the Missisauga Tournament.
Highlight 2: Kingston 3 – Barrie 2. A thriller. Another epic battle and pitching masterpiece by Dane. The team defense was outstanding throwing out two Kingston runners at the plate.
Highlight 1: Barrie 3 - North York AA 2. An extra inning tournament championship. This was not the Red Sox best game of the year but it was most certainly a thrill and had everyone on the edge of their seat.
