Agenda

  • Introductions
  • 3 on 3 Tournament
  • Misc items and Future events
First agenda item.  Terry Krenek welcomed everyone and passed around the sign-in sheet to continue gathering email addresses and contact information for the new parents.  Coach Gernander and Coach Frye sat in on the meeting, and Coach Gernander stated that Coach Penders could not attend because he was in a district coaches meeting to go over the rules and any rule changes for this season. Terry Krenek introduced himself and then all in attendance followed with their names, son’s name and grade level.  Don Wilkerson also introduced himself and let everyone know about the website clearlakefalconhoops.com where they can find information on upcoming events, forms, calendars, and directions to all of the other schools.  He told them about the summer camps he takes Varsity and JV players to during the early summer.  Don also touched on the Varsity and JV shootout this past Saturday, Oct. 9th at Clear Falls H.S. with the teams winning 5 out of 6 games.  Leigh Ann Train mentioned that she had sold Drain Springs t-shirts during the lunches today and asked for volunteers to work the lunches during the rest of the week because kids were showing interest, but many did not have money with them.

Second agenda item.
The main point of discussion for the evening was the 3 on 3 tournament that is scheduled for this coming Saturday, October 16, 2010.  Terry said they have not received many registration forms yet, but the same thing happened last year, with many of the teams showing up with their forms and money on the day of the tournament.  The tournament is set to start at 9:00 AM, but could be a little later depending on last minute signups and getting all the brackets formed to include everyone.  They did make plans to have the younger kids start later this year (closer to 11:00 am or noon), to accommodate the other activities that many of them are involved in on Saturday morning. The key for success will be parent volunteers to help as referees and with the concessions.  The plan is to keep it simple with drinks, candy and pizza for sale.  Leigh Ann said they sold a lot of pizza last year because there is not enough time for the kids to leave between their games, so many purchased pizza from the concession stand.  The number of volunteers needed will depend on the turnout they have for the tournament, but they need for parents to help!  It was also discussed and agreed upon that high school age students could help in the concession stand, too.  At the event, there will be medals awarded for 1st and 2nd place finishes.  The tournament information was put in the PTA newsletter, and Terry said flyers were given to the coaches at a number of intermediate and elementary schools. Terry will keep us posted as the tournament approaches.

Additional items.
Terry reminded people to sign up and use the Kroger neighbor to neighbor program which raises money for the Booster Club.  Coach Gernander said the chocolate sales went well.  Don stated that after the 3 on 3 tournament, we will need to start planning for the CCISD tournament which will be in early December, since many volunteers will be needed for concessions.  The concessions from the District tournament are split between the district schools.  There were questions from freshman parents about who plays in the CCISD tournament, and it was explained that this is a Varsity tournament, but each team will participate in a tournament around the same time. Coach Gernander also explained that there are practices and games during Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks, but there is a 5 day period around Christmas with nothing scheduled to allow time for families.  It was also brought up that we still need to have someone take over concessions, as we made over $9000 in concessions last year.  We can discuss that further at the next meeting.  Terry said it is also helpful to have 2 contact people for each grade level, and there are some who have already agreed to do that.

Tentative agenda for the next meeting – Nov. 8th  6:30 pm

  • CCISD Tournament Planning
  • Concessions
