Falconhoops Invitational Camp Plans for 2012

Falconhoops Invitational Camp Plans for 2012

(tentative plans unless otherwise noted, costs are preliminary and might change slightly).

IMPORTANT. Since there are often more players than camp slots, once invitations to the camps go out (around April 1) it is imperative that parents respond by email within one week to indicate intentions to send your player to the invited Camp. If no timely email response is received, your player's name will be replaced with another player.

Tentative plans are to attend 1 JV Camp and 3 Varsity camps. The following camps are being considered:

Camp 1. Rice University Varsity Camp -  June 2 & 3.

Not an overnight Camp. Five pool play games, Situational Tournament, and double elimination Tournament.  Head Coach Ben Braun runs a very well organized Camp with excellent instruction for the players on both days. Cost of the Camp is $55. Does not include transportation to Rice University. There is a charge for parking (credit card only) at Rice. This is the best bargain of any of the Camps attended. Team size 12-15.

Camp 2. JV Camp at A&M (Great American Shootout),

June 8-10 (second weekend in June). Cost is projected to be $275 per player. 5+ regulation games with certified officials. Transportation and hotel lodging are included. Camp fee includes meals provided for Friday dinner (fork food when schedule allows), Sunday lunch, and Saturday late night pizza (players provide drinks) when schedule allows if boys behave, play well, and observe curfew.  Players pay for Saturday meals and Sunday breakfast).  There is an admission charge for spectators. Maximum team size = 12.

Camp 3. A&M Varsity Camp,  June 22-24, 2012.

Games include 1 minute challenge games and 7+ games with registered officials in training. Excellent 1 hour training classes each day. Cost projected to be $320 per player. Equipment and jerseys, transportation, dormitory lodging and meals provided. Saturday late night pizza provided if boys behave and observe curfew. Boys need money for Friday lunch, snacks, and any optional meals not eaten at the A&M dining halls. Maximum team size is 12.

Camp 4. University of Texas Varsity Camp.  (Camp held July 8-10, 2011 but date will probably change back to a June weekend in 2012).

Cost projected to be $335 per player. Equipment and jerseys, transportation, meals, and dormitory lodging provided. Meals provided include Friday night dinner in an Austin landmark restaurant (schedule permitting) plus four meals in the dorm cafeteria, and Saturday late night pizza if boys behave and observe curfew. 8+ games with certified officials.  Boys need money for snacks, Friday lunch and optional meals eaten out (usually Sunday noon meal). Maximum team size is 12.

Reminder

With the exception of the Rice Camp, the number of players invited to these Camps will be limited to 12 players per Camp. This means that some players expected to play JV or Varsity ball next season might not be invited to a Camp. Additionally, some prospective Varsity players will not be invited to all Varsity Camps.

Invitation/attendance to any of these Camps does not assure a player will make the school team or whether he will play JV or Varsity ball next season. For some players those decisions might not be made for months after these camps.

In addition to being an eagerly anticipated event for most players these camps have become an important factor in the development of some players so parents are encouraged to allow their players to participate whenever possible. Parents are encouraged to attend these camps as spectators.

For more details on previous camps attended, see the following article.
