Clear Lake 84 - Brazoswood 41

Because it is high school basketball and the outcome is never certain, we make the long drive and play the game but the Brazoswood game was about what one would expect from a Clear Lake team that was 25-6 against a Brazoswood team that was 2-27 going into the contest – a scrimmage that allows the Lake offensive powerhouse to chalk up some more stats and a chance for the reserves to polish their skills in a game. Lake was up by 21 at the end of the first quarter after holding their opponents to one basket for over seven minutes. Clear Lake scored 49 points in the first half – more than Brazoswood did in the entire game. The Falcons had five players in double figures including Anthony Bilcic. Armie Lewis went 10 for 10 from the free throw line so he has now made 17 in a row and has made 27 of his last 28 attempts (Armie is the leading free throw shooter in the Greater Houston Area). Combined with Brazoswood’s ineptitude, Lake’s often intense defensive pressure contributed to 17 steals in the game while holding the Buccaneers scoreless in the third quarter.

A win is a win and it should always be valued even when it is over a much weaker opponent. We are certainly proud of our Falcons and their impressive offensive prowess combined with their often impressive, but inconsistent, defensive efforts. They should be relaxed, prepared and confident as they go to Pearland on Tuesday for a game to decide the district championship. To win the district the Falcons have to defeat the Oilers by more than 3 points (and they will) and then beat Creek at home and Alvin in their gym in the final district game of the season.
