Game 13

Aldine Benjamin Davis 68 - Clear Lake 66

On Tuesday December 22, Clear Lake hosted  state ranked Aldine Davis. It was one of the best games of the season. Definitely the best game to date from this year's team.  A very well prepared Lake team faced a superb Aldine Davis squad in a game that was a delight to watch.

Aldine Davis' quick, well balanced team is anchored by their big man, versatile 6'8" junior Royce Hamm, who scored 21 points in the outing. Hamm has offers from several major schools including the University of Texas. Hence the appearance of Coach Shaka Smart in the Clear Lake gym today.

At the half, Lake was up by 2, 38-36 after hitting six treys in the second quarter. But Lake was outscored 18 to 5 in the third quarter. In the final period Lake outscored Davis 23 to 14. In the last 4 minutes, the lead changed multiple times to keep spectators on the edge of their seats. Lake's freshman phenom, Jeremiah Maldonado, led all scorers with 23 points in a hard fought battle that made Lake fans very proud. Jake Ostrowski also had an outstanding game with 16 points. Lake's record is now 7-6. With this win Davis is a perfect 14-0.

In this game, the preparation, poise, and execution of the Lake team would make any Lake fan proud. The masterful coaching displayed by the Lake coaching staff was evident even to casual observers.

I could not have imagined this Lake team playing this well this early in the season. As the chemistry of this team continues to evolve and the players' ongoing improvement progresses, the consternation level of the other coaches in District 24-6A should go way up.

Clear Lake travels to Austin on the 28th to compete in the Cedar Park tournament on the 29th and 30th.

Season Game 12:

In the third place game of the GP HEB Wildcat Classic (Corpus Christi) Saturday at 5:30pm, Clear Lake faced off against district rival Friendswood and was victorious (61-58) in a hard fought game.  Lake's record is now 7-5.

Brazosport, the team that beat Clear Lake, went on to win the Tournament championship with a win over San Antonio Brennan 69-63.

Game 10:  Lubbock Estacado had the quickest, best defensive squad Lake has seen all season to date. After defeating the superb Lubbock Estacado team (#12 in 4A) 48-46 in a terrific basketball game Friday afernoon, Clear Lake was defeated by Brazosport (#6 in 4A)  72-59 (Game 11). The score does not reflect how one-sided the game was at times. The Exporters scored 24 points on free throws to Lake's 8. Lake's record is now 6-5.

Game 9 In the opener of the HEB Wildcat Classic Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas, the Falcons defeated CC Moody 72-48. Freshman Jeremiah Maldonado scored 4 of the first 5 baskets in the game.  Lake is now 5-4.

Game 8: Clear Lake was defeated by La Porte 72-45 Tuesday night.  Alex Hobbs, La Porte's talented guard, scored 33 points. Lake's record is now 4-4. La Porte's is 10-7.
