Agenda

  • Treasurer report / update
  • Recap of CCISD tournament at CLHS/ Concessions
  • Miscellaneous items

First agenda item.    Treasurer Joe Swingle was not at the meeting, but Terry Krenek gave an update of the treasury status:

Currently we have $3200 cash in the bank and an additional $2000 in the activity fund. There is also a little more money from candy sales not included. He also gave a comparision between this year and last year in regards to several items:

3 on 3 Tournament net $1500 this year vs $3000 last

Sponsors $1300 this year vs $ $1500 last

Membership $1150 this year vs $1750 last

We will also be getting one fourth of the net from concessions at the CCISD tournament split between 4 schools- Lake, Creek, Brook & Springs , so approximately $343.72 per school.

Coach Penders said we are short compared to last year and that mainly affects their ability to buy meals for all the boys at the away games.  It was mentioned by Leigh Ann that we have had less concession opportunities so far this year vs last year, but will have opportunities with upcoming concessions, as long as people volunteer to help work them.

Second agenda item. Coach Penders said the CCISD tournament held at Lake went well. The concessions and hospitality room were great and everything ran smoothly.  He thanked everyone who helped by bringing food, or working concessions, etc.  Leigh Ann also agreed that we set the bar high by having concessions open for 12 hours in Krueger & also some hours in the main building.  We also provided workers during a day assigned to another school.  She made some suggestions for whoever heads it up next year, for them to be sure there is plenty of communication between the schools involved. Especially since next year Lake will be one of the 2 schools that do not have to be responsible for concessions and hospitality, (but the tournament will still be held at Lake). Each year 2 of the schools do not have to provide shifts, but are still included in the split of the proceeds between the schools. Leigh Ann also stated that workers are still needed for the Varsity game this Friday at 3pm, and others still needed for next Monday & Tuesday.  We need to have people step up and work 2-3 shifts during the season.  The concessions are a large part of the money that comes into the program.

Additional items.
Coach Frye said the raffle ticket sales will begin this Friday, Dec 17, for the chance to win a signed Earl Campbell picture, a signed Luis Scola basketball, or a signed Calvin Murphy basketball.  Tickets are $5 each and will be sold during the district season until winners are announced at either the last or next to last game. Coach Penders went over the upcoming schedule for Varsity:  they will leave the day after Christmas for the out of town tournament.  They will be staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites at The Colony from 12/26 until their return late on 12/28.  The phone number for the Fairfield Inn & Suites will be posted on the website so parents/fans can also stay at the same location.  Varsity will resume practices the 29th-1st, and then into the next week…(until school starts again on Jan 5th), sometime between 9-3 (times to be announced) Other teams (JV, Soph, Fr) will likely have their own practice schedules as well.  Coach also said he would like to offer the kids a chance to purchase something they can keep, such as a backpack (similar to the warm-up jerseys bought by the students) for the team.  There was a brief discussion of the new uniforms, and old ones will pass down thru the ranks. Coach Penders also mentioned the ‘Your Life Coaching’ that Varsity has been participating in and what a positive difference it is making for the players.  Don Wilkerson said a new American flag is needed in the main building and Coach Penders responded that he has already put in the work order for that, but it takes some time.  Don also stated that a Texas flag is needed for the Krueger Field House.

Meeting adjourned and we will meet next on January 10th.

Tentative agenda for the next meeting was not discussed. Email Sally Sugarek at sssugarek@sbcglobal.net with additions or corrections to these minutes.
