CLHS Boys Basketball Booster Club Meeting

October 5, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 6:34 pm by Melvin LeBlanc, President.

Opening RemarksPresident, Melvin LeBlanc began with thanks to those who have stepped up recently to lead committees within the club.  He mentioned Brenda Cowan - Programs, Dawn Navarro - Spirit Wear, Jennifer Eastin- Membership and Dawn Clary, Co-Lead Concessions.   He also thanked everyone who helped volunteer and donate drinks for the Gulf Coast Shoot-out. Sponsorship activity is going well this year.  Norman Frede Chevrolet is potentially going to sponsor the purchase of 18 additional backpacks for the players.  The Scoreboard has received a commitment from Texas Citizens Bank for $15,000 over 6 years.  The shooting gun, donated by the Clear Lake Islamic Center should be delivered to the school by Thursday, October 6.

Homecoming Parade - Merita Parker said that one fire truck is available for about 12 boys to ride on (will be determined by coaches).  She needs three more trucks and/or a flatbed trailer to provide seats for the remaining players. If no donated trailer is available, she may rent one from UHaul for $30.

Other requests for help with the parade:

  • volunteers to help create decorations on Monday

  • volunteers to help decorate the trucks at 4:30 Wednesday

  • 14 (empty) ice chests needed as seats in the truck beds.

  • Candy donations – each player should bring a bag/No stick or hard candies

Car Wash – Suzanne Sambell.  The Homecoming car wash will be held on Saturday, October 15 from 8:30-2:30 in the Popeye’s parking lot.  Suzanne will give pre-sale tickets to the coaches for distribution.  Each player is asked to sell 15 tickets, if possible.  All players should participate in the car wash.  An email will be sent with details and volunteer requests.

3x3 Tournament – Was originally scheduled for Saturday, October 22.  However, because of the reconstruction of the Field House gym floor, it has been postponed likely until the spring.  The coordinator for the event is Tim Jennings.  Confirmed that teams will consist of boys grade 6 and up.

Concessions – Paula Lucas.  She will recruit volunteers soon and will need additional help for the December tournaments, including the Krueger Classic.  Reminded everyone that parents are expected to donate drinks to help keep stock filled.  She will create a volunteer signup soon and will email.

Away Game Meals – The club is in need of someone to coordinate the meals for players this year.  Last year, volunteers made the sandwiches for the players, saving a lot of money.  Various options were proposed.  First away game is December 6.  Please contact Melvin if you are interested in helping.

Treasurer – Karen Zimpfer provided a budget update, our current balance is $9,670.09.  Karen noted that the booster club officers have suggested that we should consider changing our banking provider to Texas Citizens Bank in light of their support/sponsorship of the Field House scoreboard.  The membership unanimously approved of this idea.

Coaches Corner – Coach Penders Noted that there will have to be some morning practices until the floor refinishing is complete, which should be by early November.  The team rosters are not confirmed yet, but as always he hopes to keep as many players as possible.

Carlisle – Krueger Classic Tournament – December 1-3.  Clear Lake is the host and we will need many volunteers for all three days of the tournament for: concessions sales, ticket takers and entrance door attendants, clock table, and hospitality room workers. Please mark your calendars and make some time available to help with this important event.  Coach Frye noted that there are a total of 240 volunteer spots to be filled, including providing meals on Friday, and Saturday and Hospitality room food for 20-50 people. More details will be available soon.

Coach Frye- mentioned that each player must have a completed “Sportsman Standards/Parent Expectations” form turned in before they can participate in official practices.  Please make sure your son has turned this in.

Don Wilkerson – Acknowledged Gary Stenerson among the attendees as a former Booster Club president who has done a lot for the booster club and is willing to share his knowledge and help once again this year.

Membership forms are available, and those that have not yet joined were encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

The Meeting was adjourned at 7:42.
