Clear Springs 78 - Clear Lake 74

With the exception of two ties in the first quarter, the lead never changed with Clear Springs ahead the entire game. After an initial 11 point run by Springs at the start of the game, Lake went on an 11 point run to tie it up. It was a close, exciting game with only a 2 point margin much of the last four minutes of the game. Clear Lake overcame a deficit of at least 10 points to fight their way back in each half. Blake Gregorcyk had a good game going 5 of 6 from the field in the first half for 16 points but only one basket in the second. In the second half Lake went 0-8 from three point range.

Can Lake still make the playoffs?

Since anything is possible in high school basketball, the following is mentioned regarding the possibility of Clear Lake making the playoffs.

If Lake beats Alvin and Clear Brook, and Brook also loses at home to Brazoswood, Lake and Brook will be tied with records of 7-7 in district play. If I have calculated it correctly, the Power Rating (second level tie breaker) would favor Brook by 3 points so Brook would advance to the playoffs. This would be the first time in 16 years that Clear Lake has not made the playoffs.

in addition, if Dickinson were to beat Creek (at Creek) and Brazoswood (at Bwood), they would be at 7-7 as well. Since Brook defeated Dickinson twice, Brook would advance to the playoffs.

THE IRONY OF IT ALL.

Brook gained 8 points in the Power Rating tie breaker due to their win at Galveston Ball. The Galveston coach had suspended two of his players (including their leading scorer) for disobeying an order when they had their haircut a certain way despite his direction to them. Ball lost both games while they were suspended. If Brook loses their remaining two games, a haircut by a Galveston player could be the reason Lake did not make the playoffs!

Season record is now 15-12, 5-7.

Blake Gregorcyk 20

Jacob Horton 13

Paris Clayton 12

Colton Krenek 6, 6 rebs.

Rob Lewis 5, 4 assists

Randall Hollimon 2

Please note: There is a threshold used to determine if a player's accomplishments get mentioned here (for points, steals, rebounds, assists, and charges taken). Only players meeting or exceeding at least one of the thresholds gets mentioned.

The single game thresholds are:
obvious acts of integrity by a player;
scoring;
more than 4 rebounds;
4 or more assists;
4 or more steals;
3 or more blocked shots
1 or more charges taken.

As an example a player's name for a player not scoring but having 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots will not appear in the listing. A player having 3 blocked shots and any other stats would appear. Occasionally I might deviate slightly from these guidelines.
