Clear Lake Head Coach Inducted into Hall of Honor at Alma Mater

 

On Friday, November 14, 2008 Clear Lake High School Head Basketball Coach Lynn McDonald was inducted into the Hall of Honor at Texas State University (formerly South West Texas State University). He was one of four honorees inducted.

 

McDonald was a four year letterman in basketball from 1973-1977. A two year starter, McDonald was an academic all-conference selection during the 1976-1977 season. He received All-Conference Honorable mention in 1977 and was a member of the Dean’s List in 1975, 1976, and 1977.

 

Coach McDonald is generally recognized as one of the top boys’ basketball coaches in Texas. Currently in his 13th season as Head Basketball Coach at Clear Lake High School, Coach McDonald has received numerous accolades during his coaching career. He has been named District Coach of the Year five times in District 24 5A. In 1997 he was Clear Lake High School’s nominee for the Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding Teachers and in 2007 he received the most prestigious coaching award in the state of Texas when he was named the Texas Conference 5A High School Coach of the Year. He serves as Department Chairman of the school’s Health and Physical Education Department and is an active participant in numerous foundations and scholarship funds.

 

Coach McDonald and his devoted wife Amy have two daughters, Kacey Bryant and Abbey McDonald. Kacey and her husband Jamie have one daughter Karys Jane Bryant. Coach McDonald’s brother is a girls’ head basketball coach and his sister is an elementary school principal.

 

FYI: Coach McDonald’s father Vernon was inducted into the SWT Hall of Honor in 1977 and is a legend at Texas State University as well as the basketball coaching profession.
