#7 ATKINSON BEATS COFFEE ON OPENING DAY 2005 (2/28) The 7th Ranked Atkinson County Rebels opened the 2005 season with a 5-4 victory over the Coffee County Trojans in Pearson Monday night. The game was the first ever meeting between the 2 boarder schools in varsity baseball and the first game ever played on the Atkinson new on-campus field. Cam Newmans (5IP-3H-5K), Daniel Clement (1IP-0H-2K), and Ryan Mason (2IP-2H-2K) combined for the win. Cam Newmans, Garrett White, and Daniel Clement each had multiple hits. In all the Rebels collected 10 hits on the night. Atkinson scored in the bottom of the 4th when Justin McClellan got a lead-off hit and was driven in by Garrett White's double. McClellan scored again in the 6th on Ryan Mason's double off the rightfield fence. Daniel Clement and Colt Day scored in the 7th after Clement singled and Day was hit-by-pitch. Garrett White doubled and scored the game winning run in the 8th on a passed ball. Wesley Adams took the loss for Coffee. (Jonathon Guthrie hit a towering shot out of left that just hooked foul in the 3rd.) #7 ATKINSON FALLS 8-6 AT COFFEE COUNTY (3/4) Atkinson made several costly errors in the first 2 innings to fall behind 6-0 at Coffee Friday night. The Rebels battled back to tie the score 6-6 in the top of the sixth inning. Coffee's Jamaal Smith hit a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth that was the game winner. Daniel Clement took the loss for the Rebels. Brooks Waldren picked up the win for Coffee. Justin McClellan and Jake Relihan led the Rebels at the plate. #7 REBELS FALL 4-2 TO DALTON IN DOUGLAS (3/5) Saturday the Rebels lost 4-2 to Dalton High. Colt Day took the loss in relief of Keegan Wilkinson. Cam Newmans, Justin McClellan, Jonathon Guthrie, Ryan Mason, and Keegan Wilkinson each had at least 1 hit. Mason hit a homerun and Jonathon Guthrie had an RBI double. #6 REBELS BEAT WARE MAGNET 16-0 (3/8) The Atkinson County Rebels defeated Ware Magnet 16-0 in a run-rule shortened game Tuesday in Pearson. Daniel Clement picked up the win. Leading Rebel hitters were Zack Harper (3-3, 2B), Keegan Wilkinson (2-3, 2B), Ryan Mason (2-3, two 3B), and Justin McClellan (1-2, HR). Cam Newmans, Jonathon Guthrie, Garrett White, and Daniel Clements each also had a hit. Justin McClellan ended the game with a long 3-run homerun off Eagle pitcher Patrick Hayman. #6 ATKINSON WINS 15-9 AT WILCOX (3/10) Atkinson traveled to Rochelle Thursday to take on Wilcox County who was coming off a 10-0 win over Schley and a 13-4 win over Telfair. The Rebels collected 15 hits and came away with a 15-9 victory. Leading hitters for ACHS were Garrett White(3-5, HR), Keegan Wilkinson(3-5, HR, 2B, 5 RBI), Cam Newmans(3-5, 2B), Jake Relihan(2-4), and Ryan Mason(HR). Rickey Greer, Joe Barfield, and Anthony Haire each had 2 hits for Wilcox. Greg McDuffie took the loss. #6 ATKINSON DEFEATES BROOKS COUNTY 10-0 (3/11) Ryan Mason pitched a 1-hitter in the 5 inning game. The Rebels are now 4-2. Cam Newmans, Jonathon Guthrie, Justin McClellan, Ryan Mason, Keegan Wilkinson, and Zack Harper each had hits for the Rebels. #6 ATKINSON WINS THE BATTLE OF THE REBELS 8-6 (3/14) Atkinson moved to 5-2 on the season by defeating Berrien County 8-6 in Pearson on Monday. Atkinson's starting pitcher Daniel Clement went 5 innings allowing 4 earned runs and striking out 8. Reliever Jonathon Guthrie picked up the win with 3 strikeouts over 2 shutout innings. Ryan Mason(2-2, 2 RBI), Justin McClellan(2-3), and Cam Newmans(2-4) led Atkinson at the plate. Every Rebel starter had at least 1 of Atkinson's 12 total hits. Berrien was led by J. Nichols (2 hard base hits) and J. Purvis (HR). J. Stokes took the complete game loss for Berrien. The game was another good one in the series between the 2 teams. Last year the teams split with Berrien winning 3-1 in Nashville (Guthrie= complete game loss) and the Atkinson winning 6-1 in Pearson (Guthrie= WP; Temples= LP). #5 ATKINSON BEATS BACONTON (3/17) Atkinson moved to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in region play with a 3 inning 20-0 run-rule victory at Baconton Charter Thursday. Atkinson's #5 starting pitcher Keegan Wilkinson throw a perfect game for the win. Cam Newmans, Jonathon Guthrie, and Jake Relihan each collect 2 hits to lead the Rebel starters. ACHS was able to put 14 players into the line-up during the 3 inning game. The JV Rebels starting first baseman Justin Meeks drilled a ball into the left-center gap. Freshmen Tim Wood and Lee Chancey each were on base 3 times. Baconton is now 0-2 on the season with their other loss coming on Tuesday to region opponent Turner County by the score of 11-2. #5 ATKINSON DEFEATS #9 MILLER (3/18) Atkinson defeated Miller County 3-1 in Pearson Friday. Cam Newmans had 12 strikeouts in a complete game 2-hitter for the win. Miller's Jason Bailey pitched very well in defeat. Jonathon Guthrie, Garrett White, and Daniel Clement each had hits for Atkinson. Miller scored their only run in the 4th when Bailey reached on a 2-out error by freshman Lee Chancey at 3B and was driven in by Chambers' triple to right-center. The Rebels played very flat after Thursday's trip to Baconton and having been out of school on Friday. Atkinson was again without All-Region clean-up hitter and starting 3B Ryan Mason. Atkinson moved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the region with the win. The Rebels have only played 2 teams so far with current losing records. ACHS' only 2 losses have come to AAAAA Coffee County and AAAA Dalton. Coffee is currently 6-3 with a big win Friday against previously undefeated Luella. Dalton is currently 5-2. #4 ATKINSON OVER CLINCH 12-1 (3/24) Atkinson defeated Clinch County 12-1 in Pearson Thursday night. Daniel Clement picked up the win allowing 5 hits and striking out 7. Cam Newmans and Tim Wood each had 2 hits and Ryan Mason homered for the Rebels. Hart had 2 hits for Clinch. Atkinson is now 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the region. Atkinson plays again on Saturday at Turner County. #4 ATKINSON OVER TURNER 14-4 (3/26) Atkinson defeated Turner County 14-4 in 5 innings Saturday in Ashburn. Cam Newmans, Jonathon Guthrie, Justin McClellan, Ryan Mason, and Keegan Wilkinson each had multiple hits. ACHS collected a total of 15 hits on the day. Atkinson is now 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the region. #3 ATKINSON OVER WILCOX (3/31) Atkinson defeated Wilcox County 13-1 in Pearson Thursday night. Jonathon Guthrie and Keegan Wilkinson combined to throw a 3-hitter with 9 strikeouts over 5 innings. Ryan Mason and Jake Relihan led the Rebels at the plate with 2 hits each. Jake Brooks had 2 hits for Wilcox. Greg McDuffie, Jeffrey Portivent, and Carter Greene pitched for Wilcox. #3 ATKINSON OVER #8 SEMINOLE (4/2) Atkinson defeated Seminole County 9-1 Saturday in a game in which neither team played to their abilities. Rebel pitcher Cam Newmans allowed 2 hits over six innings. Ryan Mason started the 7th on the mound and allowed Seminole's only run. Justin McClellan and Daniel Clement each had 2 hits for the Rebels. #3 ATKINSON OVER #4 (AA) BACON (4/4) Atkinson defeated Bacon County 9-8 Monday night in Pearson. Rebel starting pitcher Daniel Clement was the winner allowing 4 hits over 6 1/3 innings. Ryan Mason picked up the save. Raider starter Brock Miller took the loss. The Rebels jumped out to an 8-1 lead after 4 innings when Bacon mounted a comeback. At the plate Atkinson was led by Cam Newmans who was 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI, Jake Relihan who was 2-3 with 2 RBI, and Zack Harper who had a 2 RBI double. #1 ATKINSON OVER LANIER (4/13) #1 ranked Atkinson defeated the Lanier County Bulldogs 8-2 Wednesday in Pearson. Atkinson's Daniel Clement pitched a complete game allowing only 4 hits, striking out 7, and uncharacteristically walking 5 for the win. Cam Newmans and Ryan Mason each had 2 for the Rebels. Ryan White had 2 hits for Lanier. Alex Moore took the loss. The Rebels did not play well. The game was a make-up of the previous days rained-out game - a game that Atkinson led big when the rain came. #1 ATKINSON OVER PELHAM (4/15) Atkinson defeated Pelham 10-0 Friday night in Pearson. Ryan Mason pitched 5 innings for the complete game allowing 4 hits and striking out 7. The Rebels had 10 hits on the day. Jake Relihan and Ryan Mason had 2 hits each. J Tillman had 2 hits for Pelham. #1 ATKINSON OVER WARE MAGNET (4/19) Atkinson defeated Ware Magnet 3-1 in Manor Tuesday night. Starting pitcher Jonathon Guthrie went 4 1/3 and allowed 1 run before reliever Cam Newmans finished the game 5 strikeouts and allowing 1 hit over the final 2 2/3. Jonathon Guthrie tripled and Daniel Clement doubled. Whitney Robbins pitched very well for Ware Magnet. In recent years the Eagles have played the Rebels very tough in Manor and Tuesday was no exception. #1 ATKINSON OVER BROOKS (4/21) Atkinson defeated Brooks County 9-3 in Quitman Thursday. Ryan Mason pitched 6 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 earned runs. Cam Newmans pitched the 7th allowing only an infield single. At the plate for the Rebels, Keegan Wilkinson was 2-3 with a homerun and Jonathon Guthrie was 2-4 with 2 RBI. D. Storey homered for the Trojans. #1 ATKINSON OVER BACONTON (4/22) Atkinson defeated Baconton 16-0 on Senior Day in Pearson on Friday. Keegan Wilkinson allowed 1 hit and had 6 strikeouts over 3 innings for the win. At the plate the Rebels collected 13 hits in 2 offensive innings. Senior Cam Newmans had 2 triples while fellow senior Jonathon Guthrie was 1 for 1 with a single and a walk. Also Justin Mclellan had 2 hits, Jake Relihan had 2 hits, Garrett White had a homerun, and Tim Wood had a triple and a homerun. 15 Rebels got to play in the 3 inning game. #1 ATKINSON FALLS TO BERRIEN (4/25) Atkinson was beaten by Berrien County in Nashville Monday 15-2 in 6 innings. Keegan Wilkinson and Jonathon Guthrie pitched with Wilkinson taking the loss. Tim Wood, Justin McClellan, Garrett White, Daniel Clement, Keegan Wilkinson, and Zack Harper had hits for ACHS. Atkinson committed 8 errors and allowed 10 unearned runs on the game, most coming in the 5th inning. Berrien led 4-2 after 4 innings. Berrien hit a 2 out grandslam in the bottom of the 6th for the final score. Atkinson was short-handed in the contest. The loss ended the Rebels' 16 game winning streak. Atkinson's Cam Newmans was out of the line-up due to injury (cut hand) for the 1st time in his career. #1 ATKINSON OVER TURNER (4/26) Atkinson defeated Turner County 6-2 in Pearson Wednesday. Ryan Mason pitched a complete game allowing only a single after the 2nd inning while striking out 9. Cam Newmans, Jonathon Guthrie, Ryan Mason, Jake Relihan, and Zack Harper each had hits for the Rebels. Brock had 2 hits for Turner. Turner County made several outstanding defensive plays on hard hit balls during the game including a few diving catches Soliday in centerfield and Coker at shortstop. #1 ATKINSON OVER ECHOLS (4/28) Atkinson defeated Echols County 14-4 in Pearson Thursday. Starter Daniel Clement allowed 1 hit and had 8 strikeouts over 4 innings. Rebel centerfielder Justin McClellan pitched well in relief striking out 4 over 2 innings. At the plate Cam Newmans and Justin McClellan led the way for the Rebels. ACHS was able to get some young players some quality time in this game. Tim Wood led that charge at the plate and in the field. Echols scored their runs late in the game. #1 ATKINSON OVER ECHOLS (5/2) Atkinson defeated Echols County 12-2 in Statenville Monday to win the 2005 Region 1A Championship. Keegan Wilkinson picked up the win allowing 5 hits and striking out 9 over 5 innings. Offensively the Rebels had 15 hits. Justin McClellan and Cam Newmans each had 3 hits while Jonathon Guthrie, Ryan Mason, and Daniel Clement each had 2 hits. Keegan Wilkinson (HR), Garrett White, and Jake Relihan had 1 hit each. 15 Rebels played in the game. #1 ATKINSON OVER CLINCH (5/4) Atkinson defeated Clinch County 9-1 in Homerville Wednesday. The win marked a perfect 13-0 region season for the Rebels. Cam Newmans picked up the win allowing 2 hits and no earned runs. The Rebels were led at the plate by Daniel Clement (2-4, HR), Jake Relihan (2-3), and Zack Harper (2-3). Bradley Bennett took the loss for the Panthers. #1 ATKINSON FALLS TO #7 (AA) BACON (5/7) Atkinson was defeated 9-3 By Bacon in Alma Saturday. Daniel Clement took the loss on the mound. The Rebels used the game as a playoff tune-up and tried several line-up combinations. Justin McClellan went 2-4 for the Rebels at the plate. Cam Newmans and Jake Relihan each doubled for the Rebels. #1 ATKINSON FALLS TO PACELLI (5/9) Atkinson was defeated 9-4 by Pacelli at Darton College in a playoff tune-up game Monday. The loss marked the first time Atkinson has lost to a class A school this year. The game allowed some Rebels to make their season debut. Atkinson was also able to throw 4 pitchers while resting another. Cam Newmans, Jonathon Guthrie, Justin McClellan, and Zack Harper led the Rebels at the plate. #2 ATKINSON SWEEPS LONG (5/13) Atkinson swept Long County 15-5 and 16-6 in the 1st round of the state playoff Friday in Pearson. The challenge of the playoffs woke the Rebel bats up again as Atkinson collected 14 hits in game 1 and 15 hits in game 2. GAME 1 The Rebels scored in every inning but the 4th of the 5 inning run-rule game. Long scored in the 1st and 4th innings. Atkinson was led at the plate by Cam Newmans (4 R, 2-run HR), Ryan Mason (3 for 3, 5 RBI), Daniel Clement (3 for 4, 2 RBI) and Keegan Wilkinson (2 for 3). Cam Newmans picked up the complete game victory. GAME 2 The Rebels batted around in the first inning and went on to score in 4 of the 6 innings of the run-rule game. Atkinson was led at the plate by Ryan Mason (3 for 4), Justin McClellan (2 for 4, 2-run HR), Jonathon Guthrie (2 for 5, 3 RBI), and Daniel Clement (2 for 4). Daniel Clement picked up the complete game victory. #2 ATKINSON DEFEATS #5 BROOKSTONE (5/18-19) Atkinson defeated Brookstone 2 games to 1 in the 2nd round of the state playoff Wednesday and Thursday in Pearson. Wednesday Atkinson won the first game 10-0 and dropped the second game 8-7. Atkinson won the 3rd and deciding game 13-11 on Thursday. Atkinson collected 40 total hits in the 2nd round after collecting 29 hits in the 1st round (2 game sweep). GAME 1 Cam Newmans pitched a complete game 2-hitter to lead the Rebels to a 10-0 run-rule victory. At the plate the Rebels were led by Ryan Mason and Zack Harper who each had multiple hits. Justin McClellan added 3 run HR. GAME 2 Starting pitcher Daniel Clement failed to get out of the 3rd inning before being replaced by Ryan Mason. The Rebels tied the score late before Brookstone took the lead on a Rebel error and a sacrifice fly. The Rebels were led at the plate by Cam Newmans, Garrett White, Justin McClellan, and Daniel Clement who each had multiple hits. Keegan Wilkinson added a 2 run HR. GAME 3 Starting pitcher Cam Newmans pitched 3 innings and releiver Ryan Mason pitched 4 for the win. Brookstone scored 10 of their 11 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. Atkinson scored in every inning except the 3rd and 5th. At the plate every Rebel starter had at least 1 hit. Cam Newmans, Garrett White, Justin McClellan, Jonathon Guthrie, Jake Relihan, Keegan Wilkinson, and Zack Harper each had multiple hits. Justin MClellan hit a 3 run HR to give the Rebels the lead for good. #2 ATKINSON SWEEPS LANDMARK (5/24) Atkinson defeated Landmark 2-1 and 9-6 Tuesday in Pearson in the 3rd round of the state playoffs. #2 ATKINSON FALLS TO CALVARY IN 3 GAMES - EXTRA INNINGS (5/30-31) Atkinson lost to Calvary in 3 games in the 4th round (FINAL FOUR) of the state playoffs.
