Cougars stumble against Horizon.

Posted by Charlie Cleaves on Dec 02 2006 at 04:00PM PST
With the young Cougars opening up against Horizon in the Barons Tournament and of the best players in the County Senior Hannah Waggoner, the Cougars knew they would have to score some goals to match the powerful Horizon Squad. And for 65 minutes the Cougars played even. Despite going into halftime down 2-0, the Cougars came out for the second half fired up and scored to make 2-1 when MIA JACKSON lined a bullet from the right side through the box that a sliding MELISSA SAUNDERS knocked in for the first goal of her Varsity Career. With momentum on their side, the Cougars pounded the final third of the field, but the Horizon defense would deny any shooting opportunities for the Cougars and with 15 minutes left, Waggoner displayed her brilliant dribbling ability beating the Cougars defense and chipping Cougar keeper SUMMER BLAND to burst the Cougars bubble. Horizon added two more for 5-1 win. Next up Mission Hills!

The JV team beat La Costa Canyon 4-0 on four goals by PAIGE NEVILLE giving her 10 goals in 3 games and her second 4 goal game. After the game, Varsity Coach Charlie Cleaves called Paige at home and informed her that she would be called up to Varsity for the Mission Hills game, and stated that "Paige is the fastest player in our program and has demonstrated an ability to score goals, which we need right now with some of the injures we have. I believe that she will give us the ability to stretch the field and give us another weapon up top, especially on the Mission Hills turf field."image
