Sentinels stonewall Merrimack Valley August 25, 2002 WOONSOCKET -- Glen McCrory hauled in two touchdown passes from Rich Boss, and Woonsocket's tenacious defense shut down the opposing offense as the Sentinels shut out the Merrimack Valley Rebels 13-0 in yesterday's New England Football League battle at Barry Field. The victory is the second of the season for Woonsocket (2-3), which sent the Rebels (formerly the Granite State Rebels) to their fourth defeat in five games. Running back Jason Pearson of Burrillville was a bull, rushing for close to 100 yards and accounting for 160 yards of total offense. His production kept the Sentinels' momentum alive on both touchdown drives. Woonsocket opened up the scoring in the 2nd quarter when McCrory took a pass from Boss, flattened a couple of Rebels in the secondary and crossed the goal line 45 yards later. In the 4th quarter Woonsocket upped its lead on a 25-yard TD strike from Boss to McCrory. Mike Roch added the point after. On defense, the Sentinels recorded nine sacks and benefitted from the strong rushing of lineman Michael Williams, 8 tackles by Linebacker, Ruben Costa, great all-around play by linebacker Sherron Symonds and an interception by Glen Johnson. His first of the year. The Sentinels have a bye week this week, followed by two road games before returning to Barry Field on September 22 to face the Leominster Razorbacks.
