News and Announcements

The Cobalts got done early enough for noon mass in a lopsided 18-0 Win over the short-handed Brew Crew this past Sunday. Tim Klanke solved his fear of metal bats and went 3/4 with 5 RBIs and an HR. Mike Hatfield added his own HR with 3 RBI's (thanks to Stiggy). Glen "Deputy Deuce" Hock went 3/4, Todd Taylor 3/4, Stiggy 3/3, and even Wags snuck a high-chopper hit in before the day was done. Wags went the shortened distance but still managed to strikeout 10 Brew Crew hitters and giving up just one hit. Tougher week coming: Weds 6:30pm: Yankees at Sycamore HS (RH 28+ wood bat) Thurs 6:30 pm: Cheviot Patriots at Roselawn #2 (CRC 18+ wood) Fri 6:30 pm: Blue Note Stogies at Roselawn #2 (CRC 18+ wood) Cobalts now stand at 10-1 image

Posted by Mark Dietz at May 31, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The boys lined up at the bat-rack and made a short night of it in a 5 inning Win over the Rangers. PJ Eilerman gets his first Victory of the season going the distance, striking out 4 and giving up only 6 hits. Tom Taylor (3-3), Captain Bo (3-3), Wags (2/3 3RBI), Daddy Hat (2/2 2RBI), and Jesse Bechard (2/3 3RBI) led the Feeding Frenzy. Cobalts now stand at 9-1 in 2006 with a tough test versus Montgomery Inn tonight at beautiful Hille Park 6:30pm. image
The Cobalts took their act on the road over the Memorial Day weekend playing in the Battle on the Banks Tournament at Derby City. In Game #1, Shannon Morgan took the pill and threw a gem going all 7 in a 4-2 Win over the Louisville Stallions. Steve Stigler (2-3 with a 2 RBI double) led the offense with two hits each from Akers, Stineman, and Todd Taylor. In Game #2, Paully Krause went 4 scoreless to get the Win. He was aided by a "hump-it-up" scoreless relief inning from Shannon Morgan and then 2 scoreless from Mike Taylor in the 6-0 shutout victory over the Louisville Stallions. Morgan also thought the 95 degree, 100% humidity day was a good time to catch the last 2 innings...not bad for a freckled 31 year old party machine. Game #3 had a slightly hung-over travel squad of Cobalts come out flat against a tough, young, and sober squad from Tradewater...heck, most weren't old enough to buy beer anyway. But no excuses, the Pirates took it to the Cobalts 9-3 for our first loss of the season. Game #4 was a gut check as the sun beat down the old 'Balts and added throbs to the heads of the young new Party 'Balts but Keith Becker went 5 strong innings in a 5-3 Win over the Western KY Rattlers. The Snakes were also a fine young team with plenty of spirit until the end...always a good idea to get out of the dugout and shake hands boys!!! But that spirit may have been dampered by the great relief work of 45 year old El Vic-a-tor Carreon who pitched thru bad hammies with 2 scoreless innings - atta boy Vic! Offense was led by Tom Taylor 4-4 with 3 RBIs. In addition to Morgan's animal performance on day #1, worthy of mention was the great play in all 4 games of second baseman Todd Taylor who hit, fielded, and ran the bases leading the team to 3 nice wins.image
Under the lights of Crosley Field, the Cobalts beat the Bulls 7-4 behind Keith Becker's 8 strikeouts, 0 runs, in 4 innings. Brian Akers gets the Save with two scorless ininngs of work as well as 2 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. But the story of the night was the outstanding left field play of one Frank Longshanks Arnold..."Shanks" usually lives behind the plate but Wednesday night he took his mit, his poor eyesight, and his rabbits foot out to left field and dazzled the Bulls hitters with several great catches. Cobalts now stand at 5-0 going into the Battle of the Banks Tournament in Louisville, KY. You can bet the studs from the Commonwealth are loooking to beat-up the Buckeye Boys from Natti in the 2 day round robin being played at Derby City...First test of the combined Cobalt Squad featuring both young and slightly "mature" roster players. Sunday: vs. Louisville Stallions 2:00pm at Derby City, Second Game also versus Stallions immediately following Monday: Tradewater Pirates 12noon followed by West KY Rattlers at Derby Cityimage
Ken Hatfield has been catching all his life and knows what happens to "Peeping Toms." So when the Patriots pitcher wrongfully accused and plunked KHat for peeking at signs, things got interesting...bottom line: Cobalts Win 15-3. Paully "pink eye" Krause gets the Win with help from Shannon Morgan and El Vic-a-tor Carreon. Hitters were many led by Tom Taylor and Brian Akers going yard. Your Cincinnati Cobalts now stand 4-0 in 2006. Next up: Bulls at Crosley Field under the lights, Weds. 8:30pm. image
