Cobalts 2A Runner-Ups at Roy Hobbs

Posted by Mark Dietz on Nov 15 2001 at 04:00PM PST
The Cobalts went into the 2001 Roy Hobbs World Series with a mission: show the "Over 30" Baseball Community what Cincinnati Baseball is all about. With a second place finish (in only our second year going to Ft. Myers) we did just that. Victories were recorded over the Minnesota Saints, Tennessee Naturals, Akron Diamondbacks, Knoxville Royals (2A Defending Champs), and the New Jersey Tissue Boys. Outstanding performances were turned in by many Cobalts during the 8 game tournament but it was the TOTAL TEAM that delivered the Silver Medals. Just a few highlights were: Pitching Leaders: T.R. O'Brien and Vic Carreon (2 Wins each, ERA's below 2.00), Shane Schirmer (1 Win, 4 games pitched), Dave Bauer (2 starts, 19 gutty innings), Jeff Dietz and Mick Pardee (multiple saves and holds). Offensive Leaders: Team MVP Rob Stineman, Todd Hiler, Jeff Christmann, Barry Martin, Tim Klanke and John Mulvey. Defensive Gems: Frank Arnold, John Christmann, Doug Michelsen, and Mike Barbieri Special Note: Game Winning Offensive and Defensive contributions from Brian Akers and Ken Hatfield were key to the Cobalt's success. Thanks Hilltoppers. Great Tournament Everyone (including our Fans!) But finishing second still leaves us with Unfinished Business...imageimage
