The Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League returned its entire slate of Executive officers from their 2002 season, for the upcoming 2003 season, at their spring league meetings in Sackville this weekend past. Returning executive include Sydney’s Jim "Rico" MacEachern, President & CAO; 1st Vice-President Anne Marie Simmons from Halifax, Secretary-Treasurer Kay Sperdakes of Sackville, N.S.; Statistician Burton Russell from Kentville and Director of Public Relations, Terry Dunbrack of Halifax. At their meetings the Board of Directors adopted an increased 35 game schedule up from 30 games in 2002, for each one of its returning teams – Dartmouth, Halifax, Kentville, Sackville, Truro, and Yarmouth. The Sydney Sooners who had been given a year’s leave of absence for the 2002 season informed the league that they would be ending their twenty-six (26) year association with the league, citing inability to obtain required financial sponsorship as the main reason for their termination of participation. The league will host their fifth annual all star game against the New Brunswick Senior League All Stars, tentatively set for July 12, with the location and program to be announced prior to commencement of the season. The league will open on Saturday, May 17th, 2003 and regular season play will run through to August 24th, 2003, followed by playoffs with the top four teams of the league competing for championship honors. The Board of Directors adopted their revised Constitution and Operational Procedures, after a thorough and lengthy review. The league will be represented at the Canadian Senior National Championships in Windsor, Ontario, Aug 13-18th by defending league champions Truro Bearcats.
