ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE NOVA SCOTIA SENIOR BASEBALL LEAGUE
The Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League has another first. The Kentville Wildcats today announced the signing of Atsushi Ueda, affectionately known as "Sushi" by teammates to its roster for the 2011 season. Ueda is a soon-to-be 20 year old (June 12) lefthander who is an exchange student from Japan and is attending Horton District High School in the valley. The 5'6", 170 lb. Ueda is believed to be the first Japanes-born player to suit up with a senior club in the provincial circuit.
Wildcats' co-head coach, Ian Mosher, says Ueda is "a fairly typical Japanese pitcher with the familiar wind-up and pause, has a strong arm, and great mechanics".
Last season the Sydney Sooners brought the first Australian to the league in pitcher Tyler Anderson who pitched college baseball in Missouri. The Perth native has returned home this summer.
