The Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League held its final pre-season meeting
Saturday, April 30 at Sport Nova Scotia in Halifax. Following are the
highlights:
-- A 26-game schedule was approved. Each of the five senior teams
(Dartmouth Moosehead Dry, Halifax Pelham Canadians, Kentville Wildcats,
Sydney Sooners and Truro Bearcats) will play six games against each
other, plus two games apiece against the Nova Scotia Canada Games team.
-- The season is scheduled to begin May 28, with Sydney visiting Halifax
for a doubleheader, and end Aug. 14. The top four teams (not including
the Nova Scotia Canada Games team) will make the playoffs.
-- A Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League all-star team will represent the
province at the Canadian senior championship Aug. 25-28 in Kamloops,
B.C. Dartmouth, as defending national champion, will have 12 players on
the 21-man roster. Kentville, Halifax and Sydney will provide three
players apiece to fill out the roster, and cover their travel expenses.
Truro will not be providing players because of financial concerns. A
roster is expected to be finalized by Aug. 1.
-- The league executive will remain unchanged, with Jim McEachern of
Sydney as president, Ann Marie Simmons of Dartmouth as vice-president,
Kay Sperdakes of Sackville as secretary-treasurer, Burton Russell of
Kentville as statistician, and Jody Jewers of Halifax as director of
public relations. Baseball Nova Scotia president Peter Craig of
Dartmouth and BNS Umpires Divison president Jody Frowley of Falmouth are
also on the executive.
