Sooners Add to National Roster

Sydney Sooners Coach & GM announced last night that the team will be bostering their pitching staff for Canadian Senior Baseball Nationals in Newfoundland in August with the addition of four quality pitchers from their League opposition.

 

Added to the Sooners pitching staff are Mark Haverstock from the Halifax Pelham Canadians, as well as Matt MacDonald, Cameron Marling and Jeff Reeves from the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry.

 

McEachern cited, “the four very competitive pitchers gives us additional quality pitching with National experience and creates substantial depth to our staff, to try to weather the busy schedule of games that we will be faced with over the four days of play. All four pitchers create a great mix with our existing pitching core.”

 

Sooners will start play on Thursday, August 21 when they face the Manitoba entry in their first game , followed the same day with the Newfoundland representative. British Columbia and Ontario round out the five team pool Sydney is in. Championship play is scheduled for Sunday, August 24.

 

Sooners last represented the Province at Nationals in 1982, ironically, in the same location, St. John’s, Newfoundland.
