OPENING DAY WIN FOR RAIDERS 2005

Posted by Ray Flaherty on Sep 10 2005 at 05:00PM PDT
The Central Catholic Men's soccer team defeated Swampscott 3-0 on some fine goals and a shutout by goalie John Bernat in his first varsity start. Central opened the scoring on a pretty deflection by Conor Hillman, taking a nice line drive cross from Chris Valence and gently flicking it past the goalie to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead they would add to. Second half goals by Sean Bakhtiari and Nate Bartlett (who assisted on the Bakhtiari goal) capped the scoring. Freshman Jerry Gagnon unselfishly placed a nice pass back to Nate for the third goal. John Bernat earned his first varsity shutout in goal while turning back 6 shots. Mark Teal, Ben Kieley and Jason Sarbanis played well defensively to keep Swampscott off the board. Doug Larose and KB Oshodi showed some promising play as the Raiders are now 1-0 on the young season.
