Raiders Knock Off Billerica 3-0 on Perry Goals

Posted by Ray Flaherty on Oct 10 2000 at 01:34PM PDT
Steve Perry had a day to remember. he scored three goals to lead the Raiders to a 3-0 win over Billerica, the MVC small school leader. Perry scored early (3min)in the first half on a nice feed by Joe Mead. After a tough first half the central squad scored at the 7 minute mark of the second half when Jeff Gannon led Steve perry with a nice pass for his second goal. The final goal was not so easy, after taking a pass from Tim Woitkun, Perry worked his way past two defenders to tuck in his final score. John McGinness earned his 6th shutout of the season. The defense continues to improve. Led by Justin Waitt, who has stepped up his game big time this year, and Matt Moccia, who continues his solid performances, the Raiders have given up the fewest goals in the league this season. The two Tims, Bourque and Woitkun, continue to provide outstanding deefense on the outside while also giving us some solid offensive punch from the back. Our Midfield has been amazing with such solid efforts from center middies Jon Kasper and Jeff Gannon and continued punch from the outside by Joe Mead and Mike Casale. Probably our biggest surprise of the year is the job that our forwards have done putting the ball in the net. We are glad that Steve Perry decided to kick goals in rather that putt out for the fall. Jay Rourke has been our all around man as he has served up some great balls from both midfield and the forward position. The Raiders take on an improving Andover squad on Thursday, October 12 at 7:30 at Lovely Field in Andover.image
