All City Honors for NY Gothams Players

Posted by Lois Sakany on Jul 07 2009 at 05:00PM PDT

Several NY Gothams players received accolades from FiveBoroSports and the Daily News for their performances for their high school teams.

Catcher Sammy Dominguez, who plays for the NY Gothams open division team, was named to FiveBoroSports "All City Second Team." Said the article on Sammy, who attened John F. Kennedy High School:

"[Sammy] grew up this spring, developing into a team leader and learning to be patient and now allow pitchers to get him out with their pitch. Dominguez also became Coach Al Torres’ lights-out closer, using that big arm on the mound. He still led one of the city’s best lineups, hitting 451 with 24 RBIs, three home runs and 20 runs scored. Remarkably, he has a year left, and there is even more room for improvement."

For "All-Manhattan Honors," FiveBoroSports awarded honorable mention to shortstop Isaac Forman, who plays for Beacon High School and the 16U NY Gothams, and catcher Nelson Rodriguez, who plays for George Washington and the 14U Red NY Gothams.

The Daily News also mentioned Sammy as a "player to watch" during the PSAL play-offs, describing him as his high school's "power source for the past three years." When the paper chose its "All-City Team," both Sammy and lefty pitcher, Dominique Parra, who last year pitched for the 16U NY Gothams, received honorable mention.
