Liz Butterly busted out a 20:53 and freshmen Kim Baldwin and Abby Mitchell broke into the 22s to pace the Bucs to an upset 25-31 win over Caesar Rodney at Killens Pond State Park Wednesday. The Bucs last beat CR in a dual meet in 1994. Jackie Creasey and Becky Godwin rounded out the stellar top five, while freshman Alex Butterly also beat CR's 5th girl. Shayla Wilson closed out the varsity with a 24:24. Giulia Santandrea, Jessica Griffith, Miriam Millard and Taylor Probst ran career-best times, while Emmery Williams, Becky Clendaniel and Casey Johnson earned their season-bests. For the guys, freshman Patrick Helmick led the way with a career-best 20:13 although CR scored a 15-50 win. Brandon Morris, Erick Cisneros, George Kershaw, Robert Fisher, Anthony Kramlich and Travis White paced the varsity. Liz Butterly ran a 21:06 to win the Varsity A race as the cross country teams jumpstarted the 2006 season with great performances under hot weather at the Ron Powell Invitational in Clayton Saturday. Becky Godwin, Shayla Wilson and Alex Butterly each added medals for the girls, while Jackie Creasey, Kim Baldwin and Abby Mitchell rounded out the varsity finishers. Giula Santandrea, Miriam Millard, Leigha Kline and Taylor Probst each added career-best times. For the boys, Brandon Morris started the day with a 19:47, while Erick Cisneros shattered a career-best to also break into the 19s. George Kershaw, Patrick Helmick, Jordan Showell and Robert Fisher each picked up medals, while Michael Schlegel ran a career-best to round out the varsity. Due to the scheduling of a freshman football game at MHS on Sept. 13, the MHSCC team will move its home opener with Caesar Rodney on Sept. 13 to Killens Pond State Park. We will start by 4:15 p.m.
Caesar Rodney grads Kyle Luke and Elizabeth Paul scored the top spots in the Milford High School Cross Country Boosters 7th annual Reindeer Stampede 5K Saturday, Nov. 26 at Milford High School. Overall, 188 folks participated in the event which proved to be another huge success for the MHS running programs. A big thank you goes out to all those folks who supported the event!! Elizabeth Butterly placed 14th in the Division II state meet leading the girls to a sixth-place finish out of 22 teams Saturday at Brandywine Creek State Park. For the first time in his career, sophomore George Kershaw led the boys who finished 19th as a team. Brandon Morris, Matt Holloway, Logan Moreau, Robert Fisher and Anthony Kramlich ran their best times on the hilly Brandywine course, while Matt Esposito rounded out the varsity. For the girls, Jackie Creasey followed Butterly and Erica Godwin, Tahnisha Colson, Jody George and Meredith Muskovich scored their fastest times at Brandywine.
