Posted by Czar Bloom at Sep 28, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Carl Richardson busted out a new school record of 16:24 to place fourth overall, while Molly Bliss finished runner-up with a stellar 19:36 -- just 10 seconds off a school record as the Bucs crushed times at the Tidewater Classic on a rainy, overcast Wednesday afternoon in Salisbury, Md.

The girls earned a third-place trophy out of 22 teams, while the boys finished as the top Delaware team and 5th of 23 teams overall. Alexis Groce (20:44) and Kelsey Cabrera (20:44) added top 10 individual trophies, while Taiwan Savage and Steve Eshelman moved up on the MHSCC All-time Fastest 5K list.

Mike Doughty broked into the 17s for the first time, while Josh Johnson came up big as the boys' No. 5 man with a killer 18:41. Stef Clendaniel and Shai Sefiane surged into the 22s to close out the girls' scorers.

Meanwhile, Amy Wilson, Kari Elzey, Jesse McCormick and James Hagen rounded out the varsities with career times. In all, 31 Bucs smashed career-best times, and another 14 ran to season bests.

One of the team’s senior captains, Elzey has worked hard to tranform herself into a much improved runner for 2010. On a hot, humid day last week, she remained focused, running her fastest 5K ever — a 26:28 in a home course time trial — which was good enough for the top 7.

Hagen, a rookie, has done a nice job working with a veteran group of teammates in practice. He has steadily challenged himself to get better and pulled off the payoff last week by moving into the top 7 for the first time in his career. The team’s No. 6 man aided a key win vs. Woodbridge.

After joining the team a little later in preseason, Fitzgerald-Lorah has begun to get in shape and move up the depth chart in her rookie season. She put together an outstanding run last week on a hot, humid day by shaving nearly a minute off her career best with a 30:29.
