SPECIAL SAUCE IV: SURVIVOR SPECIAL

Posted by Czar Bloom on May 10 2003 at 05:00PM PDT
Dun Dun Dun Dun Dun Dun . . . DuNNNN . . . . DUNNNNN ... Dunnnnnnn . . . . . DUN DUN . . . Well, how 'bout that for an opener? The summer running series (now in the plural form with the Rockin' Ray Parker Trisports Events series in Kent County and the Seashore Strider Racing Series in Rehoboth) has officially begun and Ol' Bloom has again taken to the streets (not in protest, but in good racing run) to plow through yet another summer schedule. And for now, he runs solo as his fellow Special Saucers (Uncle Vern, et al.) contemplate retirement. Hence, this season will be the Survivor Special!! (Hopefully, we'll see Uncle Vern alive and kicking soon and maybe we'll sign on some upstart Saucers). At any rate, this is my fourth straight season after taking a decade hiatus from running (dating back to my high school days at Lake) and I like to give the local running world a little spotlight each week so stay tuned and join the Special Sauce fan club (along with me, I think we still have two in our fan base. Seaford CC coach Rob Perciful told me the other day that he still surfs the web and stops by for a summer racing snack from time-to-time.) I'll try to keep a weekly update, highlighting Henlopen CC alum and others as they brave the pavement. And of course, as always, you can get a chuckle at my times as I make my quest to return to that high school best of 19:45. But don't laugh too much, you MHSCCers, the 2003 high school CC season starts in August, so you better be faster than your coach. And here's some early Special Sauce Insider news, Ol' Bloom got to start this year's Strider Series at age 28, just one day before my 29th birthday. :) And remember . . . If you want to make Special Sauce, I guess I'll have to see you out there running! :) Have fun! Run!
