GIRLS SWEEP UP BEST RECORD IN A DECADE

Posted by Czar Bloom on Oct 25 2004 at 05:00PM PDT
The Milford High girls cross country team put to rest a pair of dubious streaks, upsetting Cape Henlopen, Seaford and Smyrna in hard-fought fashion at home Wednesday to cap a 7-3 regular-season record -- the team's best over the past decade. The girls topped Smyrna, 23-33, and Seaford, 19-42, and edged out Cape, 27-28. They hadn't beaten Cape since 1995 and Seaford since 1994. Elizabeth Butterly led the girls with a stellar 21:16, while Jackie Creasey, Erica Godwin and Marissa McDonnell ran course-best times to lead the varsity. Lindsay Kenton posted a solid 22:33 to round out the top five scorers. Meredith Muskovich and Erin Clendaniel each ran career-best times, and Julee Farley added a season-best. For the boys, sophomores Henry Wilson and Matt Esposito, who both broke 20 first the first time in their careers, followed Andrew Meade's strong 18:55, while James Starnes added a career-best for the varsity. Mike Pastor and Alan Lane also posted career-best times. In all, 26 MHS runners ran to their fastest times on their home course. Click on the above headline for complete results.
