Posted by Czar Bloom on Nov 05 2004 at 04:00PM PST
Andrew Meade and Jackie Creasey paced the boys and girls varsity, respectively, at the Henlopen Conference Championships at Killens Pond on Saturday. Meade finished 17th overall, just missing All-Henlopen recognition with a Killens-best 18:31, while Creasey ran a solid 22:25 to place 22nd. As a team, the girls finished fourth ahead of rival Lake Forest and just behind Cape, while the boys finished 11th -- just 24 points from the seventh spot. In all, 21 runners earned their best Killens time. Erica Godwin, Elizabeth Butterly, Lindsay Kenton followed Creasey with gutsy performances in the No. 23, 24 and 25 spots, while Marissa McDonnell rounded out the scoring pack in 29th place. The girls junior varsity took first, led by top 10 medalists Tahnisha Colson (23:48), Tricia Gerken, Candice Young, Meredith Muskovich, Jody George and Alicia Sanchez, who each ran their best Killens time and/or a career-best time. Robert Calhoun busted out a career-best 19:43 as the boys' No. 2 behind Meade, while Andre Purnell -- the boys' lone senior -- ran a career-best 21:49 to make the top seven for states next week. Freshman Alan Lane shaved nearly two minutes to run a career-best 23:05, while Mike Pastor, Brian Cisneros, Anthony Kramlich, Erin and Becky Clendaniel and Latrice Whidbee ran career times. Seniors DeShauna Purnell, Rosie Seagraves and Maire O'Neill added solid finishes to their outstanding careers. In middle school action, Robert Fisher ran to a 16th place medal with a 15:36 over the 2.1-mile course, while Rossiny Beaucejour (17:17), Michael Schlegel (19:07) and Miriam Miller (35:00) also competed well for the MMSCCers.
