BLISS, GIRLS SPRINT TO KENT COUNTY TITLES
Sophomore Molly Bliss ran a career-best 20:16 to win the individual Kent County title and also help the girls claim their first team championship since 1994 Tuesday at Killens Pond State Park.
Teammate Alexis Groce finished runner-up, just three seconds behind Bliss with a 20:19 -- the fastest time ever recorded by an MHS freshman, while senior Sara Kolobielski ran a Killens-best 20:53 to place fourth. Sophomores Stef Clendaniel (13th) and Shai Sefiane (20th) ran bests to round out the team's scorers.
Meanwhile, the boys got eked out of a championship, tying front-running CR, 31-31, before losing the 6th-man tie-breaker by seven seconds. Patrick Helmick finished runner-up overall, while Erik Gibbs (4th), Carl Richardson (7th), Taiwan Savage (8th) and Steve Eshelman (10th) each ran bests to make the All Kent-County team.
Nick Albert, David McCormick, Sarah Holbruner and Morgan Parsley each added career-best times as well.
