2001 Minutemen Lose To Strong Somers Team

The Minutemen hosted Somers Youth Wrestling on Friday, January 11th. The Somers squad showed experience and technique to the young Berlin squad in many matches as they beat them 60-28. Leading the way for the Minutemen with two wins and no loses were Ricky Mullins who beat Ethan Pace 12-1 and came back to beat Nick Zachary 11-9 in the third period, Michael Cassineri who beat Zachary Servantez 7-0 and Ryan Mailhot 11-5, Peter Ginter won 6-0 and pinned Mark Wilson in 33 seconds, and John Holzinger 18-0 and 9-0. Winning two matches and losing one were: Seth Synckowiczs who pinned Max Simons in the third period and beat Phillip Sevantez 6-3 and Jack Rudy who pinned Tim Vollaro and beat Brendan Evans 6-0 before losing 12-1 in his final match. Winning one match by pin were: Zach Parsons over Matt Nichols in 1:38 and Will Matuszak over Dolby Forest in the first period. Winning by Technical Fall was: Ryan Preece 17-0. Winning by Major Decision (winning by 8 to 14 points) were: Matthew Cote 13-3, Jack Russo 12-0, Kevin Moss 14-1, Colin Cunningham 15-2 and Ryan Butler 11-0. Winning one match and tying a match was Ali Sullivan. Winning one match by a Decision were: Derrick Durity, John Swantek, Chris Domurat, Brad Lepak, Cameron Banks, and Sean Pentalow. Tying his match was: Austin Vernesoni 5-5 Giving a good effort in their match were: David Balfore who lost 8-6, Jonathan Asal 7-6 and 5-3, Jack Banks 4-2, Ryan Vujs 4-0, Jacek Liberda 7-3, Jeffrey Sylvester 7-5, and Danny Hackett 6-3. Tony Squitieri in his first matches ever lost both but gave it his best effort on the mat. The highest scoring match of the night was Anthony Scacca who ended up on the short end of a 17 to 10 score. Working hard in their matches were: Jack Haynes and Erin McKinnon. Coach Moss was very pleased with the efforts of all his wrestlers. “With all the sickness running around were were missing some of our more experienced wrestlers tonight”, Moss stated. He also wanted to thank the High School team for having four mats set up in the main gym and all the parents who timed and scored the matches, “This allowed us to wrestle almost 90 matches on the evening.” The next home match will be Friday, January 18th at 6 PM against Southington in the wrestling room.
