Coaches Clinics

Posted by Roger Moss on Oct 28 2003 at 04:00PM PST
I hope everyone enjoyed their summer and is ready for the upcoming season. Just to recap, we had our most successful trip in CT history at the Cadet/Junior Nationals in Fargo ND. CT crowned eight all- Americans (the most ever) as well as winning 83 matches (also CT record). This success is due to the excellent job done by our CT coaches not only this year, but through out these young athletes development. All of our all- Americans came up through the CT youth wrestling circuit and their success should be enjoyed by all. This winter we will again be offering many certification clinics at both the copper and bronze levels, with the first being a Bronze level course November 9th at Maloney High School in Meriden. To help make the certification more accessible to more coaches, USA Wrestling and USAWCT will be offering a few alternative methods of attaining the Copper level. First if you log onto TheMat.com you will be able to take the Copper course online. All I ask of you is that you let me know when you take the course so that I can update my list of certified coaches. We will also be Copper certifying any coach that takes the John Smith clinic in December. Lastly any coach who takes part in all three clinics (Gardner, Smith & Sanderson) will be awarded their Bronze Level Technique certification at no additional cost. I would like to end with a few announcements and a congratulation. The new Schoolboy coordinator for the 2003-2004 seasons is Keith Malone. Based on how well Keith and the other coaches have run the team in the past, I’m sure we are in for a great Schoolboy season. Please contact Keith with any questions regarding the Schoolboy team. I am pleased to announce that we will be finalizing our spring schedule and national team criteria very soon. So be on the look out for upcoming info. I am also trying to put together an e-mail list of all our coaches. This way I can e-mail you any important info that needs to be posted faster than hoping people see it on the internet. On a not so positive note, the National office did not do a great job sending all of our coaches their certification cards. If you have not received your card please let me know ASAP and I will get it to you as fast as possible. Last but certainly not least I would like to congratulate Brian Reardon who has been named the new head wrestling coach at Yale University. We are all sure Brian will do an outstanding job. Good luck this upcoming season Stephen Makein Director of Coaching USAWCT E-mail: CoachMakein@cox.net
