After 31 straight Hoosier Heritage Conference losses, Shelbyville finally can put that streak to rest.

The Golden Bears got 13 points from Riley Achenbach and Ashley Bush, and 10 from Chelsey Skipton to defeat Yorktown, 53-44 Thursday night at William L. Garrett Gymnasium in Shelbyville.

The HHC win was the first for third-year Shelbyville coach Amanda Norris, and it was the first conference win for the program since a Nov. 10, 2007 win over Yorktown.

Shelbyville (6-7, 1-4 HHC) led 25-19 at halftime and never trailed in the second half despite several runs by the Tigers (5-6, 0-4).

Taylor O’Dell led Yorktown with 18 points, but no other Tiger reached double digits. Kendra Saunders and Leslie Sargent each finished with eight points.

Raven Hibbard had eight points for Shelbyville.

In the junior varsity game, Allyson Conner and Taylor Pierce each had seven points to lead Shelbyville to a 35-28 victory.

Kiersten Macklin and Kay Brokering each had six for the Golden Bears (5-6).

Shelbyville hosts Hauser today at 12:30 p.m. There will not be a JV game.
