Chelsey Skipton scored a career-high 29 points and Ashley Bush had a double-double to lead the Shelbyville Golden Bears to an impressive 59-47 road win at Batesville Saturday.

Shelbyville outscored the hosts 22-10 in the second quarter to take control of the game.

"The second quarter has been a huge letdown for us this season... and if not the second then the third quarter. So we challenged the girls to come out with a different fire in the second quarter and not back down," said Shelbyville coach Amanda Norris. "Skipton was able to get to the basket, and when she gets to the basket that creates openings for everyone."

Skipton scored eight points in the second quarter and Raven Hibbard hit a pair of three-pointers to spark an offense that had struggled over the last three games.

"This was a much-needed win from the mental aspect," said Norris. "The girls have been working hard."

Skipton also had six rebounds, three assists and five steals. Through six games this season, the junior guard is averaging 16.8 points and seven rebounds per game for the Golden Bears (3-3), who are at .500 in the month of December for the first time since 2006.

Bush finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Hibbard had eight points and Riley Achenbach scored five.

Shelbyville lost the junior varsity game, 28-20. Allyson Conner led Shelbyville (2-4) with six points.
