The Warren-Stauffer Invitational provided the Matadore runners with a much needed break after a hard week of training and hot-weather racing. Unlike last season, when the team took to the hills of Carbon Canyon Park at the Brea Invitational after the first cluster meet, this year's team got the opportunity to stretch out their legs and earn new PRs on a fairly flat course. The following athletes were successful in their quest for new PRs: Destinie Martin, Marisol Gomez, Adele Mata, Jenna Pasillas, Andrea Smith, Stephanie Felix, Krystal Gomez, Sarah Jeon, Tasha LeBrija, Clarissa Negrete, Miguel Franco, Daniel Diaz, Andrew Bueno, Dennis Ly and Jason Kim. All races were run by grade level.

In the senior race, Destinie Martin moved her way up to 3rd place on the all-time list of elite Lady Mat runners with a gutsy performance that left her with a time of 19:14. In race #7, the sophomore race, Stephanie Felix went out hard and set a new Warren-Stauffer course record with a time of 17:15. She was followed by teammates Karina Gonzalez (20:15), Clarissa Negrete (21:00), Sarah Jeon (21:28), Krystal Gomez (23:25),Tasha LeBrija (23:50), Lillian Mignella and Erica Campos. The 10th grade girls ran fast enough to capture 2nd place in their race. In the junior race, Adele Mata and Jenna Pasillas moved into the #6 and #7 placed on the top 10 list of elite Lady Mat Junior runners with their respective times of 20:23 and 20:30.

All of the fine performances of the day provided the Lady Mats with the times they needed to secure a 3rd place overall team finish. Their total team time for the day was 97:37. This is the 3rd time this season that the Lady Mats have improved upon their overall team time and sets another La Mirada School record for a Girls Varsity team on a 3-mile course.

On the boys side, Andrew Diaz barely missed breaking the La MIrada School record he set last week at the Fall Classic Invitational. His time of 15:41 was fast enough to secure 5th place in the senior boy's race. An 11th place finish by Andrew Bueno (16:27) was enough to move him into 3rd place on the list of elite Matadore Junior runners. In the sophomore race, Dennis Ly had a break-out race with a time of 17:32. This was fast enough to move Dennis into the #7 spot on the list of elite Matadore sophomore runners.
